Feinstein Is ‘Open’ To Changing How Senate Filibuster Rules Are Used | Talking Points Memo

Slowly, they are all coming around. I think they’ll allow Manchin to play Hamlet awhile longer -he so dearly loves the role after all - but eventually he’ll decide “to be”. Otherwise, his beloved party is dead.

Agreed – we know that the 60 vote cloture rule will get tossed the minute the GOP regains even the slightest majority.

The reason it seems undemocratic is because is is undemocratic.

ETA. The actual California/ Wyoming ratio is greater than 10 to 1.

And replaced by Governor McCarthy?

OT: Oh, my. Rick Scott speaking Spanish is somehow worse than fingernails across a chalkboard. I don’t even like the guy -at all -and I’m embarrassed for him.

Yes. I was just spitballing. Just trying to make a general point. 10-1 it is!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but he’s the Senator from the great state of…um…Florida? That can’t be right, can it?

She probably thought he was asking her about changing her depends…

I have a hunch there will be some movement on the filibuster soon. The state Republican legislators have lost their minds when it comes to limiting the vote. Only passing voter reforms in Congress is going to stop them. That means eliminating 60 votes for closure and modifying the filibuster.

The actual ratio is 66-1 (39.8 million vs. 0.6 million residents).

Oh, geez. The Senators from Wyoming may as well just stay home then. Works for me.

That’s the House, proportionally based representation. The Senate was so that all states were “equal”. It’s in Article V in the Constitution and it’s pretty much amendment proof. (Oh there’s some really wild thoughts to get around it, but nothing feasible)

There’s a good explanation of it here

So we move 3 medium-sized CA cities to WY and voila one more blue state.

ETA: then we pull a ‘Dakota’ and make the great state of S. California and N. California. One more!

So how’s about raising the threshold for a filibuster from 41 votes to, say, 51? Not a very big change; the GQP should have no problems with it. Amirite?

If that’s what it takes to get Biden’s progressive agenda passed, I volunteer. Although Lindsey would get little joy from it, sadly.
