Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) on Friday said she is “open” to changing the way that filibuster rules are used in the Senate, signaling a significant development from a longtime defender of the procedure.
Look. I am not trying to be a dick about Feinstein’s declining mental state. Could someone get her to say this on a video camera before witnesses to archive her position on the filibuster? She seems not to remember one day to the next.
Worrying that the Republicans will turn this around on them is superfluous. Republicans have proven they will do ANYTHING within their reach to completely shut down anything they oppose, so it doesn’t matter what happens now. If the Democrats don’t whack out the filibuster, the GOP will find some other underhanded thing to use. Go for it.
I just don’t get what is so democratic about a filibuster that doesn’t require a public justification of your opposition to the issue at hand. Why can’t this government be more democratic/logical and less political/destructive!?? Beats me but I better get back to my chores before I get yelled at again.
What DiFi and Sinema And Manchin and the others who oppose changing the filibuster fail to grasp is that as soon as McConnell gets control of the Senate again, He’ll eliminate the filibuster and pass all kinds of right-wing shit that no one wants.
Yup. Seems like most of the Dems know the game, only those last idiot holdouts who seem to have Mr. Smith goes to washington running on a loop in their office…
I propose each Senator have a vote proportional to the number of people they represent to make things fair. So, for example, a Senator from California might have 2.0 votes while one from Wyoming, 0.5.
I don’t really see the point of each state having the same number of Senators, consequently, with the same amount of influence on legislation regardless of the number of people they represent. Seems anti-democratic from where I sit.
