Jeff Merkely joins the chorus of voices who say that Bolton could have helped save the country earlier if he had agreed to testify. As it stands now, he is no patriot.
I honestly don’t think Bolton cares. I think that’s the problem with most republicans out there right now. They pledge allegiance to the almighty dollar and little else.

Most of the juicy details in Peter Baker’s reporting are just more of what we already know. Trump is easily manipulated by authoritarians and staffers alike. He doesn’t strike anyone as a policy genius. People who deal with him respectfully face-to-face trash him behind his back. His failings are an open secret on Capitol Hill. The only things he spends any time thinking about are how to save face, profit from office, and cheat at winning elections. In the meantime, he’s let everything go to hell and fucked up everything a person can fuck up. So he can abuse his powers all he wants to get the book stifled, but the secret that he is not a great president seems to be getting out anyway.
