I think Fauci is making a mistake by acting as if trump is a rational person. Deep down, he believes in whatever authority figure he thinks will get him out of his current mess. Then five days/hours/minutes later, someone or something else.
-
If he didn’t believe in medical science, today could have an entirely different spin to it.
-
And if he does believe in science, then his position and statements on the virus are willful and guilty of promoting and causing unnecessary deaths and suffering. Never let him off the hook for that. For all his crimes, this is the ultimate.
Too crazy for even the virus.
The story about staff rolling their eyes says it all. It isn’t that they don’t understand the virus; they simply see it as a political rather than health problem. They are willing to gamble that if they get the virus, their access to health care will prevent them from having a serious consequence, and they really don’t care at all about the people who don’t have that same access. As long as they can “roll their eyes” at consequences, they can keep the country in the turmoil it has been in for four years, and can continue the ride on the grift train.
However, Fauci also asserted that Trump does believe in science “deep down.”
Counterpoint: Scott Atlas.
Deep down, Trump believes in Trump. He believes in everything and nothing. If he had thought that taking the virus seriously would benefit him, we would all be in total lockdown and there would be martial law to enforce mask ordinances. Instead, he calculated that he could appeal to his followers racism, selfishness, and greed. Somewhere he has read and absorbed a quote that is attributed to H.L. Menken: the idea that no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.
He believes in what he sees as good for him. Period. No one else comes into the calculation. Even Lust Object is just that…an object. If she said “You aren’t going to treat me like that” she would be dead to him.
" bleach, UV light & hydroxychloroquine for thee, not for me" -Donald Trump, Oct. 2020
Because that’s the fundamental point of our puritanical society.
You get pregnant because of your choices, so since you chose to have sex, other people can force you to face the consequences.
Similarly, as we’ve seen with messaging around the virus, if you catch it, it’s because you did something wrong (even if you’ve taken every precaution possible). This is why they like to blame it all on “irresponsible” millennials going to bars.
And because everything bad that happens to you is your fault, it’s not the government’s responsibility to help you out of anything.
Maybe next life you won’t be a bad person and get sick or be poor.
So, Trump isn’t as stupid as he is evil?
I saw the Frontline episode on PBS and it was damning for Trump. What the ANA is demanding of Congress are things that the President can do by himself, by virtue of the office.
With Fauci’s statement that the President knows the science makes it that more damning that he chooses the path of magical thinking, and people are dying in higher numbers because of his PR moves.
What was really disconcerting when I watched the 60 Minutes segment was Fauci describing the threats on him and his family. Another awful thing Trump and his acolytes have engendered, attacks on public health professionals.
The only thing Trump “believes” in is supplying his own immediate needs.
Well, that and also staying out of jail.
He doesn’t believe in honor, decency, any power higher than his miserable self, doing his job, and (sorry, doc) neither does he believe in science.
But he will make noises in his throat as if he does, if he thinks that’s the right answer at that moment. There is no “deep down” with that man, unless you mean his morals.
And pretty much anyone that goes against Trump. He is definitely emboldening them with his rhetoric, not calling them out, and not sending in law officers, the folks he claims to give a shit about, to keep them in check.
You should change this to: “It’s God’s will what happens to you, it’s preordained.”
Because duh.
Not at all. God gave us free will, which led to the apple thing and original sin… So everything that happens to you is because you did something bad.
Here’s a clip of it. And it is really astounding as he says that it’s a message to try and save lives that’s causing some idiots to do this. Idiots that Trump is giving permission and encouraging to do.
Are we going to start the Reformation Wars again? I’ve got 30 years, how about you?
