White House COVID-19 expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has largely been sidelined by the Trump administration, said on Thursday that he will be meeting with President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team later in the day to discuss how to move forward combating the pandemic.

If I can be serious for a moment, it’s not wrong to pause and feel thankful this is happening. It’s dangerous for literally everyone to live in this country right now. We need help we can’t provide ourselves, no matter how careful and sane we are. And before long we’ll have adult leadership again, people who will be ready, as they always claim, on day one. It’s like we’re all shot-down pilots, our bravery, resolution, all that unquestioned, but we’re bobbing in a raft and not entirely sure we can make it another day, when there’s a sound, growing louder, and then a dot above the horizon coming straight at us, and we know it’s the chopper. They found us, and they’re on the way.

This is happening all over the executive branch right now, where the professionals in the Biden transition are talking to the professionals in the civil service. That is how the government will be reconstituted, with the Trump appointees swept out and competence moved in. The Biden transition is apparently focused on replacing every single Trump appointee on day 1, which normally doesn’t happen…hopefully they really are able to kick every one of them out the door.
The real question is how the Trump people will sabotage this…they are doing so as much as they can. If Trump tries to fire a bunch of the civil servants with his new “Schedule F” nonsense, it may put a wrench into the works. We’ll just have to wait the next seven weeks to find out just how far they are willing to go to hurt Biden’s administration, and the American people.

Any of us who have or are working in those areas know how beyond the pale hard this has been on them, given the ignorant and also purposeful false diminution of how bad this is. To anyone who disagrees, I would sentence them to a 24 hour shift in an ICU.
