In last year’s Australian fires it was right-wingers spreading rumors that arsonists were starting fires (main vector - Rupert Murdoch’s newspaper The Australian) to deliberately downplay climate change as a contribution.

Or it’s just that the echo chamber of the internet makes things seem worse than they really are, because of the instant access to news from distant places that we’d never have seen in our local rags a few decades ago.
A couple of months ago, I ended up in the lions den of trumpia, and aside from some token flags here and there, had a totally normal experience, even when I knew I was interacting with total cult members.
The demise of society is greatly over-rated, IMHO.
