The deadly wildfires in California, Washington and Oregon have blanketed the West Coast in smoke and displaced hundreds of thousands of people. But on top of the chaos, locals — including first responders dealing with the crisis itself — are facing a wave of rumors about “antifa” purposefully starting fires.

A guy I worked with informed me they were finding box after box of dismembered body parts across the west outside of “antifa controlled cities”.

We may push them back in November, but they’re not going to stop being deranged authoritarians and sooner or later, the ten percent who pay no goddamn attention but insist on voting will gobble down another bottle of Hurr Durrr Pills on election day and let them back in again. And they’ve made so very many instructive mistakes to learn from this time, that that may be end of it.
As long as Fox and Facebook are permitted untrammeled license to incubate and spread virulently authoritarian ideology and outright insane conspiracy theories, the right is not suddenly going recover a belief in democracy as a value that supersedes partisanship just because they lost an election. They are not going to stop viewing the election of Democrats as an apocalyptic event and resume believing that a party that loses an election must remain a good faith participant in the project of governance whether in and out of power, even if the losers are Republicans. They are just going to get still crazier.
We need to face it: they’ve hacked the First Amendment with technology and turned it into a weapon of authoritarianism. Free speech absolutism, a thing I fervently believed in my whole politically aware life, is a failed experiment. And every other democracy on Earth manages to put defensive limits on it without setting foot on a slippery slope into tyranny, just as they do with guns.

If we follow these pernicious rumors to their points of origins we’ll find Russian chaos artistes doing what they do best: sowing discord among Americans. I’m surprised they haven’t gotten around to blaming the Jews yet.
