Ex-FL Rep. Says Gaetz Fought Against Revenge Porn Ban, Believed Pics Were ‘His To Use As He Wanted’

Not exactly a revelation since all videos of Matt Gaetz are embarrassing.

Remember Gaetz is the son of a powerful Florida Republican politician. He was raised to believe that he is superior to nearly every man and that women don’t have rights.

Right, but they won’t do anything to make this goneness happen–unless they are retiring, of course, and don’t fear any blowback.

Even if indicted, Gaetz has the money to drag court cases out for years (Paul Manafort and Roger Stone, anyone?). Hell, even if guilty, he’ll be able to essentially exhaust the legal system and finish with, what, a fine and some time served?

He knows this, just as he knows that the more bad behavior is revealed, the more his constituents will cling to him. The GOP is the party of misogyny, after all, so no one believes he actually did anything that bad–boys will be boys and all that.

No, he’ll take this as a “win” and boast of have he defeated the Legal Deep State when he runs for either governor or senator.

This is pretty much the position of the far right of the Republican party on all issues: my rights to do what I want, believe what I want, think what I want, over yours. My freedom of religion to be a bigot against you. My rights don’t end where your rights begin, you don’t have rights.

Fuck’m.

Is that what the kids call it these days?

Is what we call kids these days?

Legal definitions may vary from state to state, but think of extortion as a circle on a Venn diagram, and blackmail as a smaller circle entirely within it. Blackmail is extortion by threat to reveal something the extortee [sic] wants to keep secret.

Both I guess. I have been to Seaside and it’s a really weird place filled with tourists from Alabama. Like a movie set. It gave me the creeps.

Maybe, just maybe, he isn’t a criminal. But he is certainly highly immoral and should not be serving in Congress. He is an embarrassment to Republicans who already worship our immoral former president.

I was with you until I read ‘extortion by threat’. Isn’t a threat implicit in extortion?
I got the Venn diagram part though. Thanks.

Well, @joelopines was more specific:

I just learned this! (don’t know if it’s actually true…)

Cattle owners who paid “black rent” or “black meal” (the origin of the word blackmail) would have their cattle protected by Rob and his fellow MacGregors. Since they were often the cattle rustlers, paying to have them protect your cattle could be beneficial!

iirc, and I don’t have the book handy, when the lead orc is encouraging his troops, he promises ‘we’ll feast on horse flesh, or something better’. When the competing orcs are taunting each other one says ‘he feeds on orc-flesh, i’ll warrant’ . Even orcs, in the book, have an aversion to cannibalism.

Y’all!

I think it more likely that orcs just don’t taste very good, as mentioned during one of the gollum/smeagol conversations.

I’ll admit, imputing a moral universe to orcs from that one quote is a bit of a reach.

Naturally, I was shocked and urged him to get right with The Lord. Honest.
