Former Florida state Rep. Tom Goodson (R) described on Monday how the embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was the primary opponent of his bill banning “revenge porn,” aka the distribution of pornographic images of women without their consent, when the now-U.S. congressman served in his home state’s House of Representatives.
“He thought that any picture was his to use as he wanted to, as an expression of his rights.”
Anybody here surprised to read this? Anybody? Anybody at all??
Thought not…
(Overprivileged arrogant a§§hole. I wanna know when the fiancée hands him back his ring…of course, she may be worried about the pix he now has on her.)
To all of those who predicted he’d resign by the end of the week…well…he says nope.
Cant blame him – this behavior is looked up favorably by his constituents, so this will only aid his re-election. Nice people in North Florida and all that.
This isn’t even a libertarian position. Libertarianism would require some kind of model release.
Gaetz: even worse than a philosophy specifically designed to give cover to selfish assh*les.
I would love to see an ethics committee investigation where every republican congressman had to answer under oath whether gaetz had shown them his nonconsensual porn stash and how they had responded.
I said the opposite, that he will cling to his seat like a drowning man, because offering to resign is a non-trivial part of a plea deal. There is recent precedent for this.
I hadn’t really thought about it, but this is no surprise. Of course he thinks that images that represent a different time in a relationship are his to use as he pleases. Of course he does. And if, for some bizarre reason, the question came up on the floor of the House now, he would vote for it again. He has no loyalty to anyone but himself, and I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t have shown photos to the former resident of the oval office
