Esper Won’t Rule Out Reinstating Fired Navy Captain Amid Probe Into Controversial Ouster

I do a little monitoring on wingnut sites that have a lot of military types, and they all supported the decision to relieve Crozier from command. So Trump lost no support from his base because of what should have been PR disaster. If anything bothered them a bit was Modly’s rant. But they do not blame Trump for what his appointed @$$holes, crooks and morons do wrong.

I think I like the ring of “The aircraft carrier U.S.S. Admiral Crozier”. Yes, this implies a promotion.

I also think that after the election the Navy should name a seriously under-performing garbage scow “The Trump Bucket”, haul it fully laden with really nasty garbage to a testing area, and use it for target practice. Just before they open fire, they can pipe certain messages through the P.A. system on the scow…stuff like “I know more than the admirals” and “I take no responsibility.”

Since the crew was obviously upset about it, that surprises me.

“My inclination is always to support the chain of command, and to take their recommendations seriously, so we’ll see how that plays out"

You mean the “chain of command” who just resigned?

With this crew if we ever got into a real shooting war with a major power I have to assume it would reach clusterfuck status the morning of Day 2.

He is “active.” He was relieved of command. Still on active duty, still being paid. Still holds the RANK of Captain. In the Navy, Captain is a rank/pay grade equal to an Army Colonel. “Captain” is also a job title for the commander of a vessel. Most people in the JOB of “Captain” are not Captains by rank, they are Lieutenant Commanders and Commanders. Those people are Captains of those vessels and are referred to and addressed as “Captain” in that context. Only the heaviest units are commanded by Captains. Clear as mud?

New headline: Esper Struggles To Remove Giant Sextoy After F***ing Himself In Public

Do they have padded jail cells?

The next aircraft carrier will be the USS Doris Miller and will be launched in 2028, who as an able seaman fought at Pearl Harbor and later died in another battle at sea…

Doris " Dorie " Miller (October 12, 1919 – November 24, 1943) was an American sailor in the United States Navy.[1] He manned anti-aircraft guns during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, for which he had no training, and tended to the wounded. He was recognized by the Navy for his actions and awarded the Navy Cross.

He was the first black American to be awarded the Navy Cross, the third highest honor awarded by the Navy at the time, after the Medal of Honor and the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.[2] The Navy Cross now precedes the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.[3] Miller’s acts were heavily publicized in the black press, making him an iconic emblem of the war for black Americans.[4] Nearly two years after Pearl Harbor, he was killed in action when his ship Liscome Bay was sunk by a Japanese submarine during the Battle of Makin.

On January 19, 2020, the Navy announced that CVN-81 would be named after him, a Gerald R. Ford -class aircraft carrier scheduled to be laid down in 2023 and launched in 2028.[5][6]

That’s the funny thing, they might be upset about it, but they just don’t blame Trump. Another example is the Midwest soybean farmers that got screwed by the tariffs war with China, they still fully support Trump.

When your closest R allies are telling you to STFU, you know it’s time to reboot. "Gone off the rails a little bit says Captio, which is like being a little bit pregnant.

“sometimes drowns out his own message,” said Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who has become one of the president’s informal counselors and told him “a once-a-week show” could be more effective. Representative Susan Brooks of Indiana said “they’re going on too long.” Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia said the briefings were “going off the rails a little bit” and suggested that he should “let the health professionals guide where we’re going to go.”

The launch is set back by six months.

Because steam.

And, he’s supposed to be at it again right now. Watch/listen at one’s own peril. If you’re having an ok day, this is a guaranteed way to ruin it. He must have something important going on later to hold it mid-day. A golf game, perhaps?

Oh, gawd no, won’t ever watch at any time of the day. A telephone call woke me up out of a sound sleep at 0630 and I’ve been out of sorts since then. The orange thing’s madness would just aggravate it.

I gave it up when he started this nonsense. I was reading people’s comments but now don’t do that very often. The news just can’t get any worse.

Thanks for bringing up this point - so the “Captain” in this situation is somebody who has some substantial credibility chops - kind of light years above the jack-ass Modly ever ever could have gotten to … no wonder it came across as though Modly was / is a lightweight sycophant who got totally insanely delirious and carried away pretending to wield power & smack talk like some big shot

Commodore Brigadier or brigadier general Air commodore
Captain Colonel Group captain
Commander Lieutenant colonel Wing commander
Lieutenant commander Major or commandant Squadron leader

This is the worst kind of military leadership. Ill considered snap decisions based on political theatre. Shit like this gets people killed in combat. And less we forget, Trump fully supported the decision to fire Crozier because he “did some very bad things” like write a letter that embarrassed the WH. Now Trump is all “I’ll look into it.” The time to look into it was before you opened your mouth, nitwit.

Thanks for the deep dive into the explanation of ranks. My two favorite presidents are the Roosevelts whose backgrounds very much involved the navy, and in TR’s case writing about it. Plus my dad was a sailor in WWII, and in pics of him wearing those whites he looked so heroic and so brave.

Actually an administration can request a congressional waiver for this. I think Dump did early on for one of his many military appointees.
