Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Tuesday that Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani was caught “red-handed” plotting in Baghdad with another terrorist leader just before the U.S. launched the drone strike that killed him.
The Trump administration has this thing where they eventually settle on an argument that might sound facially plausible if it weren’t the third or four argument they’d tried.
If this explanation were true, Mr. Esper, you would have said that an hour after we killed him, not four days later.
Esper is but one official among many who not only failed to be a so_called adult in the room to stop Rump from shaking down Ukraine, but who was affirmatively in on it all along. He’s one among many who should be trusted as far as I could push a train.
“The fact of the matter is, Soleimani was caught red-handed on the ground in Baghdad, one terrorist leader of a terrorist organization meeting with another terrorist leader to synchronize and plan additional attacks on American forces, diplomats and facilities,” he said on CNN.
I’m making a bit of an assumption here, given how vague and ever-shifting (and shifty) the admin story is, but presumably this is a reference to Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, also killed in the strike.
So, are we now considering Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces to be a terrorist organization? Teensy weensy little problem with that is that they’re also an important component of the fight against ISIS.
Oh, wait, I forgot. Our Very Stable Genius and Brilliant Military Leader has defeated ISIS, so no worries there any more.
When pressed on the immediacy of the threat, Esper said that he thinks the attack would have happened in “a matter of days, certainly no more than weeks.”
“Within months for sure, definitely within years maybe.”
And Kellyanne says we shouldn’t be talking about “hypotheticals” when asked about Trump’s own words threatening to commit war crimes by attacking cultural sites that have no military relevance.
Also, if we actually killed two terrorist leaders in the same attack, Orange Voldemort would have been crowing that from the rooftops the moment we knew. If this is the first mention of it, it is an obvious and transparent attempt to paint a veneer of legitimacy over something that otherwise reeks of that Trump stank.
This notwithstanding the fact that yes, they must be counting al-Muhandis as a terrorist, and that in and of itself leads to even more questions.
“The fact of the matter is, Soleimani was caught red-handed on the ground in Baghdad, one terrorist leader of a terrorist organization meeting with another terrorist leader to synchronize and plan additional attacks on American forces, diplomats and facilities,”
…and there you have it, folks. Conclusive evidence of Weapons of Mass Discussion.
