Impressive what a little sunlight in the form of a Congressional hearing can provide.

At least when its done by competent Congressional investigators.

The headlines is very misleading. From the article:

But over the last year, roughly two-thirds of the 1.7 million voters who changed their party affiliation shifted to the Republican Party. In all, more than 1 million people became Republicans compared to about 630,000 who became Democrats.

So a net advantage of 370,000 across 43 states is hardly a tsunami. Also, one needs to consider how many of these switches were motivated to be able to sabotage closed Republican primaries.

New voter registrations will have a greater influence that this come November. I’m fairly confident the Dems will easily outpace the Republicans there by a margin greater than 2 to 1.

I get it and AP had to put a story out.

The bigger problem is gerrymandering. Dems need to be +10 just to be even on number of seats.

The gap is an artifact of vote efficiency and motivation to vote. Turnout is always higher in Presidential elections than in midterms and midterm ballots without statewide or senate races draw even fewer voters.

For many Dems, the kettling from gerrymandering can often negate any reason to turn out when there’s no statewide races of interest. Why go stand in line for 4 hours just to push your guaranteed to win Dem rep to a 75-25 win?

This won’t change until the Dems start making state politics more central to their future growth plans in purple states. By countering gerrymandered maps through state electoral victories, the effects of kettling will be minimized and more contests will become competitive: giving more people reason to vote.

One reason a Dem switches parties is to vote in a Fascist Republican primary. In Ohio, it was either vote for Tim Ryan (D) for Senate or against our weird Hitler Josh Mandel (FR).

(ETA Apologies to Josh Rosen in original) .

And then you need to make yourself really really small, like that Fantastic Voyage movie?, and crawl up the internet wire and erase your emails and texts from about 200 other places.
