Durbin, WH Torch GOP Brinksmanship On Debt Ceiling: ‘Playing Games With A Loaded Weapon’ | Talking Points Memo

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and White House senior adviser Cedric Richmond on Sunday took aim at Republicans’ brinksmanship on the debt ceiling after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) last week that the Treasury is likely to exhaust its extraordinary measures if Congress has not acted to raise or suspend the debt limit by October 18.”

Durbin and Richmond speaking truth to political gamesmanship.

You know I can’t remember a time when a Republican went after the Turtle on his partisan bullshit?

McConnell is utterly cynical, couldn’t give a shit about anyone. His daughters loathe him; I’m sure he couldn’t care less.

Don’t give up. Despair is unstrategic.

This is a great argument to make them actually filibuster by talking nonstop. Make the GOP stand up there and tell everyone they don’t want to pay the bills. In less than 24 hours, the filibuster would end, and the debt ceiling would pass. This phone it in filibuster is ridiculous!

Disarm them. Reform the filibuster.

McConnell likes to assume the mantle of the genius of the Senate, but he has many competitors, some with a D behind their name. Time to slay the turtle.

And who would likely be a primary victim group of the deeply devastating economic impacts of GQP debt ceiling brinkmanship?

Your unfriendly neighborhood MAGAt’s.

Ironic, huh?

I dunno if Durbin is really ready to #MintTheCoin, but if he wanted to sound like he is, without actually saying so, then this is what he would sound like.

I wonder how many American companies and billionaires have money stashed away, enough to pay for a chunk of Biden’s plans.

I read the story in the Guardian. Here’s there link

If you go to the front page later, there are several related news stories.

“The future of our economy is at stake here. And if he thinks he’s going to score political points by defaulting on America’s debt for the first time in history, Senator McConnell is wrong,” Durbin continued.

He underestimates McConnell, the short memories of voters, and the MSM’s ability to spin this in the GOP’s favor.

Schumer needs to schedule clean debt ceiling votes for the “Traitor Trump Debt Relief Act”, every morning from now until October 18. Every freaking day. When Mitch filibusters, Schumer needs to call for a majority vote to eliminate the filibuster after every cloture vote. Every freaking day until October 18. This is ridiculous.

Make every day in October Groundhog Trump Debt Day. Let the Lincoln Project run the festivities 24/7 on cable TV so that Moscow “McConnell” becomes the new “Mudd”.

It’s ridiculous that he even needs to. The Fourteenth Amendment establishes that the US can’t default, period. The debt ceiling law is unconstitutional, and the whole thing needs to be scrapped. Not raised. Not suspended. Scrapped.

Durbin said he believes McConnell will “come to his senses.”

Making a statement like this leads me to believe that there is at least one Democratic Senator who has to come to his senses.

You are too kind.
