Duo Allegedly Planned To Attack California Democratic HQ, Angry About 2020 Election | Talking Points Memo

Both have power and are calculating a-holes.

I’m shocked that these jokers didn’t get hurt opening kit Kat bars.

Does their White privilege card come with a Tucker Carlson secret decoder ring?

Seriously? Because there are a lot of these people. They’re determined, well-armed, stupid, and propped up by a social media infrastructure that keeps them always on the boil. Sure, these clowns may have been drunken dolts, but it doesn’t take too many Timothy McVeighs to really screw things up.

Don’t joke about this. It is only a matter of time until we see Timothy McVeigh 2.0, with an even greater body count.

The far right is desperate and will do anything to protect their “right “ to a white supremiacist country.

The pipe bombs were made long before the election strife with rudimentary materials

What else besides rudimentary items would one use in a pipe bomb?

Given that they put their entire criminal conspiracy in writing, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that they would have documented any participation in the J6 insurrection.

This is just more persecution of two earnest representatives of the WRVEO** community. Such government overreach has got to stop!

No need to wait. TFG has a six digit body count of US citizens while Bush Sr and Jr killed at least as many with the wars in Iraq.

Too many “moving parts” and connections. One of these amateur paramilitary groups will succeed in killing someone. The odds of that happening are growing, I think.

How do you say “domestic terrorists?”

I’m perfectly serious. You still haven’t said why it will get worse. There are reasons to be concerned, obviously, but I’m asking why it will get worse.

Desperate people do outrageous things. The right wing is convinced that they are about to lose “their” white Evangelical country to non-believers of color. To them this is a holy war in which they will take no prisoners.

Didn’t occur me until now, but I love the idea of thousands of boom-larpers going “Shit! Vern, we gotta get rid of those old pipe bombs in case the cops come looking. Whadda we do? I know, we’ll go fishing and dump em in the lake. Lake’s frozen, Vern. Shit!”

The 90s saw Ruby Ridge, Waco and the consequent OKC bombing, which fizzled the movement, rather than strengthening it. Are things any different this time around? To some degree, it seems like the defense counsel is right that it was drunken bluster (though the ample access to ready-made bombs undercuts that to a significant degree), but they aren’t masterminds and they don’t come across as people who would be able to inspire much of anything. There is anger out there and these people do rile themselves up (with a grotesque helping hand from Trump/FOX), but are there really enough people “ready and willing” to go when the chips are down? McVeigh thought so too and that didn’t work out like he intended.

The insurrection in the Capitol was disturbing, but ultimately they failed to achieve any tangible goal and they are all being (slowly) rounded up after the fact. I don’t have a good sense if things are really any different than they were 25 years ago. The Internet and smart phones have made it more ubiquitous and easier to see (and for like-minded individuals to find each other and communicate), but are their fantasies of inspiring others to take up the cause more likely than they were in 1995?

Just look at how many federal, state and municipal buildings have had their frontage redesigned for enhanced security. More setbacks with Jersey barriers, bollards, planters and trees.
As a urban and transit planner the large potted plants and trees are the most effective plus they blend in and are attractive.
