The Justice Department on Thursday said it “urges Congress to enact additional legislation” to protect voting rights in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold two restrictive voting laws in Arizona.
Meanwhile, some Congresscritters are just looking for dates…
Gaetz said he and fellow Republican Reps. Majorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Burgess Owens (Utah) and Andy Biggs (Ariz.) have been following her conservatorship battle with “deep concern” and stand with the pop star.
“To the extent that minority and non-minority groups differ with respect to employment, wealth, and education, even neutral regulations, no matter how crafted, may well result in some predictable disparities in rates of voting and noncompliance with voting rules,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the court.
Alito is saying voting laws crafted to be discriminatory are neutral? FTG.
And WHAT exactly are neutral disparities when it comes to discrimination in the application of voting restrictions that affect various groups differently based upon ethnicity, race, gender, age, employment, etc?
In other words, Alito et.al. are justifying the denial of equal protection to the right to vote.
Fuck that big government shit, Daddy Spears seems to be the one who had total control over his daughter.
I haven’t really cared about Britney until she said she’s been under this conservatorship for 13
years. I hope some news outlet, looking at you Buzz Feed, put out a timeline to refresh my memory of the order of events. It sounds like Britney hasn’t been informed or kept up to date on what power she does have.
OK one blow to AZ Republican ratfuckery would be now that they have to buy new machines then they get the ones we have in St. Louis County. Paper ballots, can vote in at any polling place in the county because when you check in the computer prints your ballot with the candidates and issues your precinct is voting on.
Plus we have an app to see where and est. vote waiting times. I believe in Travis County they could vote at any polling place before St. Louis County, but rolled ours out with an app that gave wait times.
Now for which ever state is trying to crack down on people driving other people to the polls, can we get Lyft and Uber to offer free rides to polls as a way around this?
I’m certainly sensitive to what some of it looks like, but having obtained conservatorships/guardianships for incompetent people before, I would caution people that the procedures and hurdles are pretty strict and tough to overcome in terms of getting someone declared incompetent to handle their own affairs, etc. The parts of this made public arguably have done her a greater disservice than favor, if for no other reason than it’s just parts of it. We don’t know what the medical exams and reports look like, etc. We don’t know what the really operative stuff says…and all of that will remain confidential. Does she need a conservator? 100% impossible for any of to say. Should it maybe be someone other than who it is? Probably also impossible for us to say, but sometimes the courts will appoint a new one solely because of the parties not getting along. Is it at all possible to corrupt the whole thing? Sure…but I have to believe it’s the rarest of probate judges that doesn’t take this kind of thing with ultimate, maximum seriousness. Anyway, I’m in the camp that the MSM has exploited the situation as much as possible and that she would have been better served by keeping everything confidential.
I think what he’s trying to say is, “it’s a feature, not a bug.” As Anatole France said, “The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg or steal their bread.”
ETA Fixed the quote - I think it’s close, maybe a word or two off.
What I think we need to do is organize a peaceful march on the Supreme Court the next time a voting rights argument is heard.
That is I am suggesting a 1/6/2021 event but as the court is purely political, an enforcement wing of the Republican Party, we need also need to treat this as a political event and hold a rally outside the Supreme Court when oral arguments are being presented.
It may have no affect on the 6 Republican Injustices, but at least it gets us in the game. Would also suggest Stacy Abrams to speak and if 10,000 people or more showed up, I’d be there, if it did not make a difference to the Court I believe it would help motivate our base politically.
If I’m reading this correctly … everybody’s hair is on fire, all the alarms are blaring, all the gauges that aren’t broken are flashing red: DEMOCRACY AT RISK.
Meanwhile, Joe is across the street chatting with oil lobbyists while Kyrsten drinks in that RQP love; it’s a matter of time before Palin Sinema starts proclaiming “I’m a maverick!”
As the second hand unwinds I can’t help but think “My country is toast.”
If this were happening to a son, say Daddy Spears own son, people would be up in arms. She makes gazillions in performance yet gets about $8,000. a month to spend. He’s in charge of her life for no other reason than she’s a cash cow. Deal with it.
