DOJ Sues Tennessee For Banning Gender-Affirming Care For Minors

The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit Wednesday challenging Tennessee’s recently passed law that bans gender-affirming care for minors, emphasizing it “denies necessary medical care to youth based solely on who they are.”

Yeah Bubba and so was the Civil Rights Act.

These people not only seem immune to change but the self-awareness necessary to effect it in the first place.

In a statement, US Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee Henry Leventis said SB 1 violates the constitutional rights of the state’s “most vulnerable victims.”

This ^

the law seeks to substitute the judgment of trained medical professionals and parents with that of elected officials and codifies discrimination against children who already face far too many obstacles,” Leventis added.

Elected officials that have no medical training, that use religion as a reason for why care can not be provided. Seems like this could be used to fight abortion bans too.

Where did the small government conservatives go? They are still around - fundamentally, small government conservatives never existed.

“The harsh reality, however, is that Republicans have historically had no issue embracing big government, so long as it fulfills their political ambitions and ideological preferences.”

Truth is they never wanted to drown government in the bathtub. They just wanted to drown the majority of voters.

Yes, from the very beginning, no change at all and no surprise.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time.

Easy to forget hence worth repeating.

I keep wondering when Tennessee legis-haters will finally get around to relitigating the Scopes Monkey Trial.

It should be interesting to see what voter interests TN legislators call in to testify on behalf of this anti-gender law. Somebody must have wanted this wholly unnecessary legislation written.

And make them pay for it.

It looks like they have developed an influence over their genes that has blocked their evolution. If they cut off their noses to spite their faces long enough, eventually hey will no longer grow noses. Genetics is weird that way.

Lee has already vowed to fight the lawsuit, calling it “federal overreach at its worst.”

And, of course, instituting a national abortion ban would be something like, “reaffirming the moral foundation of our republic,” or some such drivel.
Governor Lee can sit on it and rotate.

You could ask the same thing here in MO.
This is all some religious BS about God created man and then woman. That’s it. They reject that humans evolved from apes. That there are any deviations from that strict fundamental scripture. Science is the Devil’s playgorund.

Or natural selection comes into play. I’ve heard/read that male African elephants are starting to grow smaller tusks, or no tusks. It has been theorized that female elephants are choosing males with smaller or no tusks. And that this is response to killing of elephants for their ivory tusks.

The last time I ran a marathon in New Orleans, the Women’s restrooms were packed so we shared the Men’s restroom at the Superdome with women runners before the race - women used the stall, men used the urinals. The ladies just queued up in line with the men and waited their turn… Everyone lived.

This same argument could be made for Women getting abortions.

Generation after generation these idiots keep making life terrible for everyone else. There must be something in the water or DNA of these Bigots? Is it inbreeding? Oh and for the most part the ole Confederacy is the locus point.

For those who are interested, let me draw your attention to recently released report from the Biden Administration. A friend and colleague served as an advisor on this and sent me the link yesterday. I have only skimmed it but it provides the evidence base for gender-affirming care. https://store.samhsa.gov/sites/default/files/pep22-03-12-001.pdf

It’s in the interest of protecting evangelical Christians in TN from God’s wrath because they didn’t force everyone in the state to follow God’s laws (as determined by evangelical Christians). Really, that’s what it comes down to…we hear all the time about how our nation is “going to Hell” or that we will be punished because we made God angry. They really argue that they will be punished if someone else doesn’t do God’s will…which, you know, I thought God punished you for not following the rules, not someone else.

it’s nonsense, of course…just an excuse these wackadoodle Christians are making in their attempt to force us into a theocracy. They disguise it and ramp up the fear and anger with lies…no, Karen, no one is going to force your little boy to wear dresses!

This is a really unfortunate judge deal. Super-Trumpy Trump judge who’s already racked up significant reversals of dogma driven descisions by the none-too-liberal Sixth Circuit.
