The Justice Department on Wednesday requested transcripts of all of the congressional Jan. 6 committee’s depositions, writing in a seemingly frustrated tone that the committee’s “failure” to grant access to the transcripts was complicating the department’s ability to investigate and prosecute those who engaged in criminal conduct related to the insurrection.
oh, so now the DOJ is frustrated? I have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes, but at the moment I have to say I have a lot more faith in the J6 panel than the DOJ. If the J6 panel is stalling for some reason I will give them the benefit of the doubt, so far they seem to be making the right decisions. And they postponed the hearing that dealt with the DOJ. Does that have something to do with this? I will stay tuned…
A: DOJ can put a fucking name on this request so when the contents of the transcripts are leaked there is someone responsible for it.
B: Get a fucking subpoena. You guys over there know how to do that, right? If it’s not worth the effort to get a subpoena, maybe you don’t need the transcripts right now.
The headline aside, it doesn’t sound like much of a fight to me, more like a miscommunication w/ the DOJ realizing its measured, bottom-up approach has put it behind the curve.
This committee cannot risk allowing anyone to see the information they have. This is a government-wide conspiracy, reaching even the Supreme Court and the Secret Service, as well as a great many other branches of government and the military.
This is the metaphoric beast, folks. The bared elephant.
I’m going to go with the J6 Committee is gathering interviews and details of what happened. They’re now using this information to tell the story of how we ended up where we are now. If the DOJ had done it’s job this story wouldn’t be able to be told in the manner it is currently being told.
I’m sorry, what is the problem with the J6 committee sending copies of their transcripts to the DOJ? Aren’t they all on the same side . . . to get to the truth?
I wonder if we aren’t witnessing a bit of legal/political kabuki: DOJ signaling to an impatient public it’s seriousness about pursuing Trump White House criminals. I don’t see a conflict. I see a dance.
This is how trump escapes indictment… because of arguing between DoJ and the J6 committee
Dammit all.
Ego… fucking ego…
Come on DoJ and J6… GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER ARE DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR AMERICA!!! Your measly careers are not as important as nailing trump and his minions scrotums to the floor.
There is a little bit of a pissing match going on here. Anyone who has been in the military, worked for the government or worked for any large organization should be able to recognize what is happening.
Not a lawyer, but can’t DOJ serve their own subpoenas…to any committee witness they want?
Why do they need to piggyback on committee transcripts when they can produce their own – and with the power to compel their own (or at least jail anyone who refuses)?
Not sure why this ostensible kerfuffle is even a thing.
Longer than 18 months.
Trump has committed crimes his whole life and acted as though the law did not apply to him as far as consequences. Yet he has never been even slapped on the wrist legally. Never indicted or arrested. That’s what money can do.
It is amazing to me how Donald Trump and his henchmen have escaped ANY and all repercussions for anything they’ve done. And what they’ve done is mind-boggling—a many-tiered latticework of a grift of every second of every day, culminating in an attempted coup.
So pardon me if I am exhausted and completely frustrated with Merrick Garland’s DOJ and have little good to say about that while I stand firmly behind the Jan 6 Committee’s efforts to bring justice to this mob boss.
The same DoJ that kept leaking new copies of old buttery males such that Comey felt he had to make a public statement about the buttery males only one week before the election? And punished no one for that leaking? Yeah, I don’t think so.
