Documents Reveal How Trump Lawyers Sought ‘Chaos’ to Force SCOTUS to Anoint Trump

In late 2020, a group of conservative movement attorneys set out to build a legal pathway by which Donald Trump could stay in power, having lost the election.

It was a coup. That it “failed” (at least as of 02.12.24) does not change its intent, or the scope of its criminality.

[e/t/a: kinda glad this dropped the DAY of the SCOTUS immunity hearings.]

We can safely say these lawyers were creating a “legal” framework, as compared to a legal framework.

But so it goes with authoritarians and the fools that choose to associate with them. Cheseboro at least has landed on his only defense, because I guess everyone is a fool about something at sometime.

Another feather in the cap of Harvard for turning out such a stellar lawyer.

“I had a wonderful apartment in NYC that I had to sell for a $2 million dollar loss, and lost almost all my net worth because of the attorney bill.”

Somehow, I’m having trouble working up any sympathy for him.

Wow. They seriously were prepared to overthrow the American system for the orange excrescence. And meanwhile, our Republican “friends” are cool with it:

how a small group of attorneys, dedicated to Trump, designed and tried to implement the portion of the coup attempt which unfolded via legal arguments.

“You can’t prove Trump intended anything.”

Ditto. The poor man’s “net worth” is probably measured in just millions now, instead of tens or hundreds of millions. Take up a collection! Set up the “Go Fund Me”!

In other news, when will Harvard start considering courses in “Legal Ethics”? Or is that too “woke”?

Let’s just cut the bullshit and lock these motherfuckers up.

Chesebro cast himself as the latest in a long line of attorneys to be victimized by Trump and those around him. He blamed the campaign for throwing him under the bus in the years after the Capitol insurrection, suggesting that the campaign ordered him to stay quiet, while also casting him to the Jan. 6 Committee as a rogue attorney, all while refusing to pay his legal bills.

Chesebro: “My name is Ken, and the leopards ate my face.”

Leopards Anonymous Members (in unison): “Hi, Ken…”

Nothing new here, sending the horde to rampage and pillage was cover for delivery and presentation of the “fake electors” documents as legitmate.

Someone please explain to me why, a) Garland still has a fucking job and b) why isn’t every one of these treasonous motherfuckers sitting behind bars right now and for the rest of their fucking lives?

And please spare me the self-important bloviating that “I don’t get it.” I do get it. It’s simple. It was like every attempted coup in modern history, with just enough legal wrapping to fool self-impressed imbeciles who got into great schools but who spend their lives with their heads lodged firmly up their own asses.

Chesebro, an appellate lawyer, provided a legal framework in which, he contended, Trump could still win

Mis-spelled “appalling” there.

Blockquote “It really went south for me,” Chesebro told prosecutors.

Zero tears shed for the guy who issued radical legal cover to radicals.

In the end the Trump campaign recalled 2000: the successful, Roger Stone-coordinated chaos in Florida and the conservative-led Bush v. Gore opinion, and they wanted to replay that in DC and broaden it to other states. They should ALL be thrown under the bus, and the bus impounded.

Sackur interviews Cornel West with mostly predictable responses. However, the notion that Gaza could eventually precipitate Biden’s decision to drop out of the race á la Lyndon Johnson, was intriguing. Biden should be the hottest guy in terms of foreign policy but Bibi continues to jerk his chain. The kids are calling Biden “Genocide Joe.”

How TF is Josh Kovensky not already on the NYT payroll? Brilliant sleuthing and analysis. Thanks!
