The Democratic National Committee’s CEO criticized Facebook on Tuesday for its refusal to fact check posts from politicians, including those of President Donald Trump as the President goes on an anti-impeachment crusade on the social giant’s platform.
Until the DNC calls for a boycott of Facebook it won’t matter. I deleted my FB account months ago - but could not get a single other person to do the same. Even some diehard Warren fans I spoke with today think seeing pictures of people you knew in high school is more important than sending a message.
Facebook wants to become politicized and be seen as the Republican platform?
If Twitter isn’t going fact check or the political ads on TV aren’t fact checked then why should Facebook fact check the ads from politicians? Caveat Emptor is as relevant now as it was then.

There is actually some scrutiny of ads for TV, though. Been plenty of cases where networks refused to air them for one reason or another, which can include blatant lying.
“Social media platforms have a responsibility to protect our democracy and counter disinformation online,” Nanda said.
The only “responsibility” Facebook and Twitter feel is to dollars.

Politicians who lie should be subject to the same fact checking scrutiny as anyone else. Why do they have special rights to spread lies? Just because they paid to do so?
Well unless Trump’s 2020 campaign is trying to out do the “Willie Horton” ad…it’s just part of consumer education, not everything you read is true, same as it ever was.

Someone should ask him (or the other executives), if he’d feel this way, if Trump suddenly advocated dog fighting.

Depends. There has been a lot more social awareness going on at the corporate level due to different boycotts, saying that he’d go all out to take down one of the Democratic frontrunners is pretty darned close to saying that he’s supporting the republican in the next election. For a publicly-traded company, particularly a tech one that depends on liberals to staff it and use it, alienation of those groups could be problematic.
