Discussion for article #223195
Appealing to the basest of her baseâŚ
WooHoo!
I like it, although sheâs probably better suited to a career making avant garde performance art rather than trying to win a Republican primary for public office. The audience for performance art might be troubled that sheâs faced misogynous attacks. Republicans, probably not so much.
Sheâs not the GOP candidate yet, right?
Canât help noting the apparently obligatory blue-state slap when she says that good people teach their kids not to curse âespecially if you have roots in the Midwestâ⌠because, you know, here on the East Coast we can barely make it through a church service or a nightly newscast without spewing f-bombs left and right.
Why does she assume that âthe supposedly tolerant liberalsâ are the ones writing the messages? My visits to right-wing websites are limited, and it is mainly due to the fact that those sites are rife with the language she is decrying.
Of course, there is a difference between vulgar misogynistic internet trolls âwarring on (a) womenâ and members of Congress âwarring on womenâ. One group has zero power and vents in a fairly socially unacceptable way. The other group makes laws that women must follow and repeatedly get voted into office despite their views. If she can name one prominent Democrat who wrote her one of those vulgarities, well then I will stand corrected.
Maybe she ought to have a talk with her republican rival whose supporters could be the ones sending her the sexist email. LOL.
Once in awhile, i do see misogynistic comments made here. You are right that it canât hold a candle to vulgarities found on other websites. Plus, here there are plenty of people who arenât afraid to call out those types of comments.
Sexism is indeed real but this comes off like some stunt trying to deflect from some of the charges made against her in this campaign
Damn, we get it, youâre a victim, just like every other goddamn GOP candidate. Better put on your thick skin because this ainât beanbag.
I like it. I still wouldnât vote for her, but my respect for her did increase dramatically. Was it a stunt? Of course, that was the point. If you are decrying it as a stunt and thereby meaningless, then you didnât get it. Modern art makes statements by shocking its audience, and that is what this did. Just because she is a politician doesnât mean she canât produce real art.
Misogyny is nonpartisan.
Really really really bad acting. Get a grip woman.
I tried her suggestion, and maybe Iâm not finding the right sites. Even on a Huffington Post article talking about how she compared people who get food stamps to feeding wild animals I didnât see anything like the words she had spray painted on the walls. Maybe my Google-fu just isnât that great.
Another expert âVICTIMâ from the GOP.
She had volunteers do it, just to be clear, sheâs not the artist. The real artists deserve some credit, they made a great point.
But Iâd like her to prove the authorship. Sounds like âIâm a victim but Iâll blame the wrong people because politics.â So much for any higher ground or because she feels for the larger community of all women who receive these kinds of insults when they dare stick their heads above the fray.
You nailed it. And it is, at best, very insensitive to start comparing her situation to the recent shooting.
I donât think she was comparing herself to the victims of the recent shooting. I think she was pointing to the prevalent misogyny in our culture that leads to internet comments such as those she was drawing attention to. That same hatred of women is at least a large part of what drove the killer in Santa Barbara to do what he did. That doesnât mean they are equal, just that they stem from the same source.
Democrats are not perfect.
In no uncertain terms is vulgar language ever to be condoned.
But misogyny is built in to the republican party:
â Against women in the workplace.
â Against equal pay for women.
â Forced transvaginal ultrasounds.
â Personhood Amendment which would criminalize miscarriages.
â Taxing rape kits.
â Cutting funds to poor pregnant women.
â Forcing rape victims to have the childâŚâŚ
âŚâŚand on and onâŚâŚ
Democrats are not always perfect - - but the misogyny coming from the republican ranks is rank.
