Discussion for article #245319
âPetraeus admitted that he loaned Broadwell eight binders containing highly classified information regarding war strategy, intelligence capabilities and identities of covert officers. Petraeus kept the binders in an unlocked desk drawer at his home, instead of a secure facility thatâs required for handling classified material.â
Whenever Hillary Clintonâs email controversy is mentioned, take note as to what kind of classified information was passed or stored on her server and what Petraeus gave to his girlfriend, and how he was given a slip on the risk.
The most damaging info that she is accused of mishandling is info about Americaâs worst kept secret: drone warfare in the Middle East.
I wonder where Petreus was when Benghazi went down.
Because of course he wonât. Thatâs for grunts, minorities, wounded vets, and combat troops.
Now if Hillary Clinton had done thatâŚgiven files to a âfriendâ ⌠the hypocrisy and double standards that mark US politics!!!
Thatâs for sure just look at the shit she has to deal with for doing nothing wrong.
What were the consequences , or nonsequences, of his âlapse in judgmentâ and HRCâs emails?
Actually, we know where he was:
- Not anywhere remotely near Benghazi, and
- overseeing authoritative editing of the administrationâs press releases to ensure they included specific reference to the mob being incited by anti-Muslim hate videos.
Petraeus resigned from the CIA in November 2012 after an extramarital affair with biographer Paula Broadwell. He pleaded guilty last year to a misdemeanor count of unlawful removal and retention of classified materials. He was spared prison as part of his plea and was given two yearsâ probation by a judge who faulted him for a "serious lapse in judgment ".
Serious lapse of judgement? Is that all it was? Nothing to see here, I guess. Just another example of never really losing anything when youâre an elite.
I might also point out that nobody seems to care about his adultery; while Hillary, who didnât have an affair, somehow still did something wrong.
This underscores the terrible judgement of Petreaus- and he just got a slap on the wrist. Someone should delve into the access he gave to the Kagans- Fred and Kimberly in Afghanistan. What were they doing âadvisingâ Petreaus and his command-they had no background in military arts and sciences- just military history. And Fred was the one who, the day after 9/11,promoted the idea of the U.S. invading Palestine. http://mondoweiss.net/2015/08/kagan-father-palestine
Petraeus was indicted on felony charges. He pled guilty to those felony charges, was sentenced to 2 years probation and a $100k fine (double what DOJ recommended).
Yes, what he did was far worse than anything Hillary did, he committed a crime. But I am not seeing hypocrisy here, he is now a convicted felon based on committing that crime.
Petraeus is now a convicted felon, is still on probation, and had to pay a $100k fine. I have no problem with that, but what does that have to do with Hillary. To date there is nothing indicating she committed a crime. But if she did, do you think she should be charged with a felony like he was?
He is male. She is not.
Thanks for asking!
You see actually NOTHING Hillary Clinton did was illegal at all. Her use of a private server had no rules against it, and these claims of âclassified documentsâ are all post facto digging around to see if there might have been an accidental security breach, and to smear Hillary for the GOP and the voters-aka, Americaâs Favorite Pastime!
Are you still âconcernedâ?
He turned over classified documents to someone with whom he was having an affair. Had she been a spy or other nefarious character, the consequences are too dire to imagine.
Chelsea Manning in prison, Edward Snowden in exile, Julian Assange under self-imposed house arrest, and Petraeus walking around free getting his full pension. Ainât that rich.
Petrus screws his âbiographerâ, gives her classified documents, lies about it until caught out, gets a slap on the wrist and gets to keep his pension. Bill Clinton screws an intern, lies about it, gets impeached (but not convicted) gets to keep his pension. Hillary, of whom there is not evidence that she had an affair, is accused of lying about other women (of which there is no proof) and held responsible both for her husbandâs affair and for not leaving him afterward. Double standard anyone?
He kept a binder of secret military strategy in a drawer in his house? And then gave it to his mistress?
People with top security clearances get how outrageous these things are. Maybe the probation and fine are reasonable, but it seems to me that demotion ought to be part of the penalties. They were only talking about demotion to 3-star.
Different strikes for different stripes. Isnât that how it goes?
And Hillary using a secured server in her house filled with Secret Service agents at all times is nothing in comparison. (And Ash Carter, among others, doing the same thing, without the Secret Service detail, is nothing to the Republicans.)
Now we have the template for a deal to let Snowden come home.
The exact same deal that Petrayous got, including keeping all of his security clearences, seniority, pensions, and government consulting jobs.
Petrayous gave away government secrets and comprimised security in pursuit of a little piece on the side and enhanced earning for a biography.
For that he got a slap on the wrist and was allowed to carry on as though nothing had happened.
Snowden did exactly the same thing in an effort to protect the Constitution.
In a just world Snowden would get a Medal of Freedom in a White House ceremony and Petrayous would get life in Leavenworth but since we live in a world where cash trumpâs ethics this would be the best we can hope for right now.
