For some reason, the term “legislative sausage-making” comes to mind…

Whatever happened to Ronald Raygun’s 11th commandment?

Seems like McCarthy was working off the 13th Step of Alcoholic’s Anonymous instead. For those unfamiliar, a 13th Stepper is one that preys on newbies…Renee’ Ellmers could be seen as a newbie insofar as she has only been in the House since 2011.

I guess it’s true what McCarthy says, you have to “hit rock bottom” before you can recognize you’re in need of doing something different.

Tawdry, sordid AND reactionary. It’s the trifecta!

The fact that he had The Missus and The Children in tow when he announced he was dropping out pretty much confirms for me he hasn’t kept it zipped… There’s nothing like a devoted spouse to prop up your cred as a Serious Public Servant. Except for Spitzer.

“Here’s a little somethin for ya, hon”

Like I said, whether or not he actually had or is having an affair is really almost besides the point. The points, to me at least, is that the TP is willing to go to any lengths to take down…another GOPer. That is unheard of in modern history. What was Reagan’s 11th Commandment? Thou shall not speak ill of fellow republicans. They are far, far, far beyond speaking ill with this tactic.

The second point is that the MSM is going to such great lengths to pretend this part of the story isn’t happening. Yet every reporter is fully aware of what went down. It’s rather amazing to watch as they all pretend to be flabbergasted and wonder why he dropped out. I believe Shep is the only one who has tried to actually raise the question, when he confronted Rep. Walter Jones about the letter he released. Other than that, nobody on the TV has said boo.

At this point, for Republicans the choice is for the person with the least skeletons in the closet.

Yep. I’m surprised he didn’t say he wouldn’t take on the extra responsibilities because he “wanted to spend more time with his family.”

Hardball and All In ran commercials from those happier, Young Gunz days when Ryan, McCarthy, and Cantor were being touted as the new GOP. It’s funny what a difference a few years makes. Cantor is now out of public life, McCarthy probably isn’t long to follow, and Paul Ryan went through that horribly embarrassing 2012 campaign where he was SURE to be the next Veep and then lost in a landslide. It’s funny, the fate of the Young Gunz is a pretty decent parallel to the trajectory of the GOP in general. They’re also a spot on representation of their so-called “deep bench” of presidential candidates who turned out to be as shallow as the backwash in a discarded Coke can.

Since there is so very little substance to the politician known as Kevin McCarthy we turn by default to his peccadilloes which are substantial.

I’m waiting for the day when a useless pol who quit and used this excuse returns to public life and explains his family didn’t want him either.

I know this is snark, but I’d be willing to bet my last dime that if Halperin hasn’t already said it, he’s about to.

Guy from The Daily Caller, forgot his name, on The Last Word explained “there’s anger on both sides of the aisle.” Yes. When the Dems get up from the floor they’ve been lying on clutching their sides in laughter, they’ll be angry it’s Friday and there won’t be reporting on Goops until Monday

The thing that made me think there was validity to it was this exchange I saw on HuffPo:

Even some natural leadership allies such as Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) expressed doubts about promoting McCarthy to Speaker, a job second in line to the presidency.
“He has not spoken to me personally for my vote, and Jason Chaffetz has, so that’s where I am right now. At this point I will be casting a vote for Jason Chaffetz,” said Ellmers, who is facing a GOP primary challenger. “I can’t vote for someone who doesn’t ask for my vote.
> “I’m apparently not high on his priority list,” she added.

Something about that just smacks of jilted lover-speak. The only time I’ve ever heard anyone ever use that phrase is when they’re talking about a romantic interest.

The TP does. The media ignores it because it doesn’t just take down McCarthy, it also takes down Elmers. That’s two GOPers in one scandal. They just don’t want to go there, unless there is absolutely proof of the affair (video, credit card receipts, emails/texts, etc.).

LOL No kidding! Yes, Democrats are right pissed that they’ve run out of popcorn. It goes so good with tall glasses of schadenfreude.

They’re not embarrassed, just pissed they got caught. And it’s not even so much that they believe in it, it’s their voters do and they have to pretend they care about it to get their votes.

You know it’s snark. Most times I just can’t help myself.
I know Halperin because of my home town. He is not funny, self absorbed, slow on the uptake, and lazy. I resent these people who clearly work for a side but act and talk as if they are neutral. The Hillary thing is out of control. Yesterday the Post ran a front pager on her contractor’s subcontractor’s dentist’s opinion on whether or not Norton Anti-Virus or some other program should be running on the server that the FBI had in it’s possession. That article had the letters H-i-l-l-a-r-y C-l-i-n-t-o-n in it and that made it newsworthy.
