I doubt any of them realize the irony of whining about “foreign law” when most of the US is based on English law. The whole state of Louisiana is based on French law and Utah has their own wacky Sharia thing going on.
All this is rationalizing incompetent behavior on the part of police, school administrators and (I’m guessing) the mayor. Does this kid have a record of stupid stunts? Why didn’t you take him at his word it was a clock? Police are naturally suspicious and because they don’t (won’t) believe the whole story has been told doesn’t mean it hasn’t. As for telling reporters more than the police, have you ever watched a cop show? The police legally can lie and manipulate the situation in their favor, never for truth’s. I would talk as little as possible to them.
Don’t forget that Van Duyne is the same lunatic that began screeching “Sharia Law” when she condemned a Muslim mediation service in her town, a service exactly like that used by Jewish and Catholic establishments…but this was…~gasp!~ …scary Mooooz’ lems’!

The “half a bomb” thing really gets me. The list of things that could be used as a timer for a bomb is really, really long. And most of them don’t have LED displays or even LEDs. The whole idea is just stupid.

It's called the First Amendment. He can say to the press what he pleases. Conservatives want to harp about wars being fought and people dying to protect the Constitution, and then piss and moan when the "wrong people" enjoy the rights it confers. He answered the questions the police put to him. An interview with police is an adversarial dynamic. Providing anything more than what they ask for exposes you to harm. It's totally unsurprising what he tells a journalist differs from, and is possible more informative, than what he told the police. He told the police enough to shut down the drama and gain his freedom. What he says to the press is none of Van Duyne's business unless she can prove it exposes a lie on his part. If you want to allege a lie in public, perpetrated by a ***minor***, don't imply it. Either give full details and evidence or STFU. **He's a minor.**

Well, according to the 2010 census, she’d better hope that all of the 30.8% non-Hispanic white people show up in her favor, because I’m guessing the 41% Hispanics, 14% Asians and 12% African Americans might have some impetus to kick her sorry ass to the curb.
