Sometimes life just ain’t fair.

Sir, as a cancer survivor myself, I am sending every good thought I can your way.

Well if you live long enough some type of disease is inevitable. The percentage of women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer is 1 in 3 . It is just a matter of when. He has lived a wonderful life and I am sure he will until the end.

You are a sweet person darrtown. I am happy you are a survivor and suspect you are far younger than Jimmy. When you live to that ripe age the odds are some bad disease will befall you. I hope whatever is left for him that it is good and pain free.

Not to be insensitive. It’s called Stage IV. The devil’s in the details as to how aggressive it is and where it’s located, or receptive to therapies. This is not playing out as hopeful. I hope we get to hear from him on matters important to us all. His is a voice of reason in an unreasonable world.

I love that man as much as I loved Eugene McCarthy, and I was in Mass in 1972 when Nixon got re-elected, and the only state to not vote for Nixon was Mass… “Don’t blame me, I’m from Massachusetts”

Then we had Ford against Carter in 76, and Reagan treason-negotiating with Iran for hostages in 1980 in order to get elected. Jimmy Carter deserved 2 terms … he never got them, and yet he was a perfect Southern gentleman about it, right up to even now.

We all leave this life sometime. The best way to leave it is to have been a guy or woman as great and loved and respected as Jimmy Carter.

May he have painless wonderful days when America gives tribute to him BEFORE he dies. I want to see him and Obama in the White House having lunch or something before we lose Jimmy.

I’m 24 years Jimmy’s junior (Jimmy is 90).
I spent my career in science, most of it was concerning ovarian cancer. My mother died from cancer than began in her breast. And that was the impetus for my career. I was resolved no one else would have to go thru what she did. But I was under no illusions. I knew I could offer only a step on a very long journey to a cure. Now I can say that in the very near future there will be better and much earlier diagnoses of ovarian cancer and that was something I was after. I did my small bit.
I think Jimmy has gotten far less respect than he has deserved.

I’d like to be hopeful but this doesn’t sound good. A big amen to all the people who’d like to see this fine person honored as he should be while he’s still around.

President Carter is a caring, thoughtful man who has lived his faith as a true Christian.

Thank you for all you did for the cause. And yes, there have been advances in ovarian cancer - thank goodness. And early detection in breast cancer which is why these GOPers should be castrated for their stance on women’s health issues.

Well, I’m doubly upset here. Never heard about the surgery, and now its beyond even that. A great person, I hope he makes the best of what’s left.

Yes, I agree with you, and thank you for your work in research on Cancer. I would have preferred to have Jimmy be healthy and just die in his sleep naturally without having an illness that must be managed now-on up until his final days. Those days are a drag on everyone who loves the patient.

When Cancer has spread outside an area or an organ, “metasticised” as they say. Usually we are weeks or a few months away from the end, as I understand it. No?

You just hit on a major hot button of mine. To want to defund PP is to make women chattel… again. A woman has (in my view) every right to control her own body. As a guy, I have never figured out the attraction of car camping in a uterus as so many GOPer politicians seem to be fond of. And for the life of me I cannot understand why women would be voting for republicans and directly against their own personal self interest.

None of us knows our “used by” date. He could recover. I don’t have the detail of his case but on first iteration it does not look good. It depends where it has spread, what type it is, what drugs would work etc. But I would not offer a time line.
