Hit 'em again. Harder!
Amazingly, Republicans are finding more ways to be on the wrong side of history. Proud of our Democratic reps for keeping this in the public arena.
The party of racism will be defeated. Let them TRUMPet their hatred loud and clear.
Don’t let up on this one. Hold their feet to the fire for a little more time and they’ll bend…
Look you guys. You are in the minority, you haven’t a hope in hell of taking over the place until the next census, the place is chock full of people so crazy they make Windows Vista look stable. For God’s sake try and have some fun.
[During his final years, Wallace recanted his racist views and asked for forgiveness from African Americans.][1]
I don’t know if he mentioned the flag specifically but as it stands right now I’d say the rotting body of George Wallace is more evolved on the subject of race relations than today’s Republican Party. Remarkable.
Good. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of economy-wrecking, poor-kicking, white supremacist-loving, craven a-holes.
Stomp them into dust, Dems.
Well, to continue the image, this IS the party that got beat by a DEAD guy.
Kicked 'em right in the butternuts.
Ms. Pelosi: “They were afraid of what our colleagues said here. But I tell you, they were more afraid of what those 100 [GOP] members of Congress might come to the floor and say in defense of the Calvert amendment.”
That.
Republican leaders have no problem with race hate in private, but – like cockroaches – they run for cover when somebody shines the light on it.
Republicans who keep up their defense of the Confederate flag that, coincidentally, appeared during the Civil Rights’ movement in the 60’s will OWN it.
I didn’t know that Mary Lee’s father and Robert E Lee’s father-in-law was the grandson of Martha Washington.
To go from that history to treason. Tragic.
More image over substance. Sure hold their feet to the fire to show them as the bigots they are. But how about going after the systemic problems that perpetuate the race based class system in this country. Been around since slavery and the removal of a flag is not going to change it. Go ahead ban the flag, burn ever last one of them for all I care. There is no question they are offensive and have no place on any public property, never mind state flags and capitol buildings. But don’t stop there. There is no question that we need to invest heavily in this country in bringing up the poor (and middle class) to a better standard of living through jobs programs, criminal justice and policing reforms, single payer health care, decreased defense spending, and increased taxation of the wealthy and corporations to name only a few. Programs that would help all Americans but especially black ones. With a few exceptions like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, not many dems are making these arguments never mind pursuing legislative policies that will change any of it. And Bernie is not actually a dem, he is an independent.
If you refuse to zip your pants after peeing in public, don’t bitch about the consequences.
Democrats suggested that the GOP reversal was a last ditch effort to shore up Republican support on the larger Interior bill, which was already facing criticisms from conservative House members for not doing enough to dismantle environmental protections. A statement issued Thursday by the Republican amendment’s sponsor as the measure fell apart seemed to support this account.
Dismantle environmental protections. Do these people care about money so much that they would risk the health of their children and grandchildren?
What am I saying? They’re Republicans. What a legacy.
“I think it’s time for some adults here in Congress to sit down and have conversation about how to address this issue,” House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) Boehner told reporters at his weekly press conference.
Translation: “We’re getting killed! Dems, please throw us a bone!!”
GOP: The only party that cares what the confederacy thinks.
It sure isn’t going to happen with republicans in control.
See Wisconsin and Kansas as the worst? examples lately.
I’m still trying to get past the fact that this bill didn’t “dismantle enough environmental protections.” So, on top of leaving the racist flag intact, let’s plant it on a heap of filth?
“I do not want this to become some political football.”
I believe that’s what’s called a “Punt”.
