She didn’t just spray him. She sprayed the woman next to him too, then sprayed it at the folks in the intersection too.

As a resident of downtown Seattle who walks everywhere, unfortunately we have an understaffed and seemingly poorly trained Police Force, as situations like these are a constant source of news. I can’t imagine who she was even trying to spray, she looks more like she is spraying Febreeze.

How could this POSSIBLY be justified? This pinhead just indiscriminately sprayed a group of law-abiding citizens with a toxic chemical mix designed to cause maximal pain. And for what? Not only is not justified, what it’s not even clear what her purpose was, other than to randomly inflict pain. And the nonchalant reaction of her colleagues just adds to the creepy, sadness of it all.

That officer looks like she is mentally unfit for any task invovling other human beings. She CERTAINLY should not be in a position that requires judicious use of power with an option for deadly force.

Pg. 73 of the Right-wing explanation manual:

“The officer in question was in the right. A mob of people that had just adjourned from a communist/anarchist meeting where they had most likely been indoctrinated on violence against police and the wealthy surrounded the helpless public servant. They most likely uttered anti-police oaths including mention that they would avenge Ferguson through the blood of this officer. The video only shows what happened from a liberal perspective and, hence, is biased and should be dismissed. If one is honest, they will have to admit that, at first glance, one could believe that the African American gentleman was holding a handgun to his ear.”

He should have hung onto this for a few more days, I always enjoy hearing dumb-ass, violent, lying, cops, pull out the ‘He was approaching me in a threatening way. I had no choice but to defend myself’. Then the back pedalling when the video inevitably comes out showing he was lying.

Unfortunately neither way seems to result in any consequences for said cops.

If a police person is this scared of a civilian, why is he/she in a job that requires interactions with civilians? They should be cowering at home behind their couches and trolling the internet.

It is strange to see/hear the officer yelling and spraying people while one officer seemed to be calmly talking to people and another officer is just standing there looking the other way using his bike to keep people from the street. He even jumped a little when she started spraying. Just crazy.

WTF is going on with our police departments in this nation? Seriously, the hiring process is not screening out all these jerky-trigger fingered idiots. Either that or the departments are orchestrating these incidents.

she was clearly hoping for some action at the mlk day event; and by gawd, she would initiate it herself if those peaceful protesters failed to bring it.
time for the city to pull out that checkbook… this is definitely going to cost them.

I’ve never been pepper-sprayed, but I believe I might prefer that to the febreeze (or axe). Seriously nasty, noxious odors. I am so allergic to both – eyes go bloodshot immediately, swelling then my throat. Unfortunately, I live in a building that has common washer-dryer rooms (I keep loads of extra quarters) and quite a few folks just over-do it with those products. Seriously, awful.

That said, I cannot imagine going through what this gentleman and his friends did. If this cop doesn’t lose her job, it will be tragic for her future victims. I hope this man does not suffer long-term.

i would suggest that it’s the training these police are receiving these days. everyone is looked at as a mortal threat, and if that suspect doesn’t immediately do as ordered, you are brutally subdued or shot.

Seattle resident here as well, and I can vouch that we’ve just had story, after story, after story like this. Our police force is in a DISMAL state and, honestly, our new chief has been slow to react to these cases.

I see plenty of police cars hanging out in the SBUX parking lot on 15th Ave West.
