Damn. Nasty rule of law gets in the way again.

Will Scottie risk a contempt order by not complying?

Extralegal means start to look like the only ways that the Republican Party can hold onto power. This is certain to go very smoothly…

We all know how this is going to go down.

  1. Walker ignores the judge.
  2. The judge holds him in contempt.
  3. He ignores the contempt charges.
  4. Marshals attempt to arrest him.
  5. He pardons himself.
  6. go to step one.

Gotta impeach them all! Also, too, I believe I read that the state leg was going to change the law. Might run into some problems with that:

No…ex post facto Law shall be passed.

U.S. Constitution, ARTICLE I, SECTION 9, CLAUSE 3

Also found in Article I, Section 12 of the Wisconsin State Constitution:

Attainder; ex post facto; contracts. Section 12. No bill of attainder, ex post facto law, nor any law impairing the obligation of contracts, shall ever be passed, and no conviction shall work corruption of blood or forfeiture of estate.

“I am not ruling on what the law might be in the future. I am enforcing the law as it is now.”

“In response, Republican leaders quickly introduced the ‘Future-Perfect-Retrospective-Subjunctive-Tense Judiciary Act of 2018’, requiring all rulings from the bench – effective immediately – to comply with prospective legislation not yet passed. Swift approval by GOP majorities in both houses is expected.”

Walker, a loser in every sense of the word.

And to think just a few short years ago Wisconsin was a state known for progressive policy and representation. It would seem the book Watever Happened to Kansas could also apply to Wisconsin.

Walker has been a self-righteous jackass from day one. And the conservatives have the audacity to say that only they show respect to the rule of law.

Can you restate in average citizen language?

Anything that makes Walker miserable is good.

Is the judge this guy??

Walker says he can’t hear him…

Completely irrelevant, but that’s a wimpy ass hamburger for a winy ass governor.

“I am not ruling on what the law might be in the future. I am enforcing the law as it is now,”

You would think this would be the default position of the party that routinely shrieks, “New gun regulations? We need to enforce the laws we already have.”

The ex post facto part is basically: a new law can’t make old actions crimes.

For example, if you started a business in July to put tattoos on cats and an outraged state government passed a law in November to make it illegal to tattoo cats, you could not be punished for the tattoos you did before the law was passed.

What isn’t clear to me is if a new law can reach back and make old criminal actions legal, which is what the WI legislature is trying to do for Walker. I believe that they are permitted to do that.

And that raises another question: if the legislature can and does change the law regarding special elections for vacancies, how does that affect the court orders made prior to the change in the law?

““Am I to presume that the legislature is going to pass a bill that immediately affects individuals in unrepresented districts who will have no vote on that bill, that’s going to deprive them of an election that has been ordered by Judge Reynolds?” he asked the state’s Justice Department…”

Shorter: Don’t piss off the Judge. Ever.

Well, he certainly is contemptible, so why not?
