the lawyers’ considerations included whether Mueller’s questions would be limited in scope and whether they avoid testing Trump’s memory

I thought Trump has one of the great memories of all time?

What the lawyers really want to avoid is, “Is there any possibility that the Russkies have the pee tape”

Look, we realize our guy is a sociopath for whom the truth is whatever he wants it to be in the moment, so can we just get a pass on that? I mean, he’ll tell you whatever you want to know, as long as you don’t expect it to be the “truth” 5 minutes from now.

Whatever the hourly rate for Trump’s attorneys may be, it isn’t enough. Just imagine their stress level and sense of hopelessness as they try to figure out a way their client could testify without perjuring himself.

Mueller knows all at this point, doncha think?

This slow dance is headed for an inevitable conclusion.

Unnamed people familiar with the matter told the Journal the President’s lawyers have prepared to launch a legal battle to protect him from testifying, should Mueller’s conditions not meet their demands. Those demands include avoiding “detailed questions involving dates and times,” in the Journal’s words.

Right, Mueller should be limited to only asking Two Scoops about his beautiful golf handicap.

True, but it’s hard to be sympathetic–nobody made them take the job, and they probably love most of what the GOP is doing with him as president.

Emails and testimony from some people have already verified dates and times. The “I don’t recall” isn’t going to work as a defense.

Gee, who believed Sessions when he used it?

He’s looking forward to an interview with Mueller just as much as he’s looking forward to releasing his taxes when the audit is done.

And the problem isn’t his memory. The problem is all the crimes, and Trump’s tendency to deny knowing people he knows, saying things he said, doing things he did and so forth. That, and his tendency to blurt out confessions anyway.

Trump: I am an expert in Lying. After speaking to me, Mueller will never ever know what the truth is. I have no worries as I will then pardon myself. SMART!!!

The “I don’t recall” isn’t going to work as a defense.

“i don’t recall” sounds a little better than “i’m not going to answer your fucking question”.

So, ya think Mueller is going to engage in a discussion of Kant’s Ethics with Drumpfie? I mean why not? He’s a smart guy and all, and of course Drumpf is one of the world’s great thinkers; and that “dates and times” stuff is soooo borrring.

…detailed questions involving dates and times…

That’s the least of his problems, and I’d be willing to grant him some leeway on the minutiae. Most of us can’t recall specific dates and times, even for fairly significant events in our lives. No, Trump’s problem is that he genuinely doesn’t know the difference between things that are true, and things that he wants to be true.

Ix-nay on the olf-gay. It’s a bit of a sore point between them.

Can you even begin to imagine the level of paranoia in the Oval Trailer right now?

No one knows who is going to flip on who; what Mr. Mueller actually already knows; who you can still trust; whether your passport is up to date; and who is going to get caught up in the next round of indictments?

Priceless…

One side has the skill and finesse to waltz beautifully.

Of course you’re right. (I was aiming for a kind of snarky sympathy but missed the mark.)
