If Calk is cooperating and therefore not getting indited for fraud, I sure hope he has stuff to dish on the Inaugural Committee. Did have any role in Transition?

ETA: Sorry Calk was an econ advisory to the campaign, not on Inaugural Committee. So, did he hear good stuff or not. Andres said he has other legal trouble. Inquiring minds wanna know1

That testimony is going to leave a mark on the defense, and on Judge Ellis. It confirms that the bank’s interests and views, as represented by other officers having authority, did not necessarily align to those of Calk’s. Fraud can only be determined with respect to the bank on an objective, reasonableness basis and not based on Calk’s decision to overlook the fraudulent filings.

Very shady stuff. In other words it was a day in the Trump Administration that ended in a “y”.

Something is very wrong with Judge Ellis’ attitude and behavior toward the prosecutors in the trial. I don’t know what the remedy would be, but I hope the jury can look beyond Ellis’ odd, cranky behavior to the facts of the case as shown in the documentation and testimony.

The fact that he had to admit that he had been wrong about something probably clued them in and also undermined his credibility. There’s no telling what that might mean.

Does anyone know if Manafort ever paid this loan back? Did he essentially steal that $16 million? Or did the bank repo his house? Or at least his ostrich jacket?

Did they already have this witness scheduled, or was it a direct rebuke to the judge?

Was wondering the same thing. Also wondering if Calk is still working for the bank. Of course they’re republicans so punishment is never a worry for them.

Bankers grift too?

Thank God for Dodd-Frank and the CFPB.

Oh. Right.

This does it for Manafort on the bank fraud charge. And Calk, if he’s not been given full immunity.

Unfortunately, the CFPB under the Trump administration has become so debilitated it is useless to consumers.

Unless the jury is composed of criminally corrupt, pretentious assholes, I don’t think we’re going to see a nullification verdict … no matter what Judge Ellis has said or done to disparage the prosecution. The jurors probably think he’s as much of an oddball as the rest of us here.

Kudos to the prosecution’s tactics and presentation here, especially with a suspect judge. This is clearly not their first rodeo.

So Ellis’ uncalled for effort to claim it wasn’t fraud if one bank officer colluded with Manafort for possible gain really makes no sense.

Is Calk potentially the target of legal action for abusing his powers for his own gain?

I came here to ask the question you preemptively answered. Thanks!

At what point does the FDIC or other bank-regulating authority step in and do something about this misuse of depositor money?

Though I won’t be surprised if the contrary is true, Calk’s career in banking might well be over.
