A link to the new Randa ruling would be nice.
And they’ve already sent in the shredders and HDD-cleaners. Reeks of coverup.
Wow…sounds like his feelings really got hurt that his original ruling was appealed. He doesn’t even make an attempt at hiding his bias on that, or the actual case for that matter.
It looks to me like this is going right back to the 7th District.
I assume the investigators will now appeal to the 7th Circuit to decide if their appeal was frivolous?
Fun fact. The wife of the lawyer defending the Walker campaign used to work for Judge Randa. Also Judge Randa twice cancelled sessions to hear motions regarding the case, and then went ahead and gave his initial ruling without hearing any arguments.
Randa should be investigated for obstruction of justice.
I still don’t understand what’s happening here…
This back and forth is good, in a way, because it keeps the story in the news and reminds voters what happens when you elect someone like Walker (and especially what happens if Republicans get to stack the federal courts). If they continue to put creeps like this in office, they have no one to blame but themselves when they find themselves living in Wississippi.
Looking at comments in ther WI Sentinel, Walkers wife works for the Judge. He’s even coordinating with the judical branches, where’s Holder?
I also read that he convicted a state Democratic official and sentenced her to 18 months for steering contracts on very thin evidence and the 7th Circuit immediately overturned it.
Judge Randa halted the Walker investigation using the recent McCutcheon v FEC decision as reasoning. He’s basically saying that an investigation for violating campaign finance laws infringes a person’s 1st Amendment rights.
He also ordered all evidence collected to be destroyed.
The investigators appealed and the 7th Circuit stayed his order and kicked it back to him asking why he thinks their appeal was frivolous.
unless you start impeaching judges for colluding with political groups or just gross incompetency our legal system is in serious trouble. I think its imperative to impeach a couple of judges just to throw a shot over the bow, to warn all other judges that colluding with political parties or the rich will not be accepted
I don’t believe it’s Walker’s wife that works for Randa, but the wife of the lawyer who is representing Walker in this case.
This judge apparently has a history of rulings that are quickly overturned on appeal.
It’s got to be fun being this blatantly corrupt.
Has anyone checked Judge Randa’s bank accounts for large unexplained deposits? You might also check his spouse and/or offspring’s accounts because corrupt people hide money in their family’s names also!
The ruling is stayed as concerns the collected material. But I guess you’re thinking they already went at them with shredders?
Walker and his cronies are being investigated, we assume from this case but dont know for sure because its a “John Doe” investigation, for coordinating campaign expenditures among various “interest” groups in violation of the laws against such activities.
It appears that the investigation was uncovering significant portions of the dark money networks in WI, so the leader of one (WI Club for Growth), who is also coordinating quite a few others personally, filed suit in the federal courts to stop the investigation.
This judge, who has a history of right wing activisim, took up the case and without hearing any arguments, issued an order shutting down the investigation and ordering all evidence be destroyed. His argument is basically that since the SCOTUS has ruled that merely giving huge sums of money doesn’t necessarily mean corruption, the state has no reasonable grounds to even investigate suspicion of corruption.
Which is a breathtaking ruling to issue, especially since the specific case didn’t have a thing to do with investigating corruption. They are investigating whether or not 501’s were coordinating their strategies with Walker’s campaign…
The prosecutors immediately filed an appeal, and the 7th District issued a stay and bounced it back to the original judge.Who basically had a written hissy fit that they dared to appeal his original decision, and ordered the entire investigation shut down again. And apparently is offering advice to the defendants to sue the prosecutors for daring to investigate them.
This ruling is almost certainly going right back to the 7th District. The bizarre precedents he is trying to set will be thrown out, but it is laying the groundwork for the case to be appealed to the SCOTUS.
His Koch check must have cleared…
Dude sounds like a right wing troll on a message board rather than a legal scholar. “Motion for appeal is GRANTED.” Add in a few exclamation points and he’s starting to be indistinguishable from Eustace.
