Discussion: Wife Of American Sniper Says Obama Made ‘Fair Point’ About N-Word, Racism (VIDEO)

All this talk about the so-called N-word reminds me of John Mulaney’s routine about the network’s refusal to let him use the word “midget.” The censor said, “Midget is just as bad as the N-word,” to which Mulaney replied, “No, it isn’t, and as evidence, we are saying the word ‘midget.’ When you compare two words, and you won’t even say one of them, THAT’s the worse word.”

I like your post, Mondfledermaus. And I must say, either you get around; Iv’e seen your moniker on ten other sites; or ‘Mondfledermaus’ is a reeeealy popular pseudonym. Either way, agreed. Most Fox Couch-Talk segments look like a Leggs commercial to me.

She doesn’t seem to have the sense god gave a wet roll of toilet paper.

Perhaps Fox in its infinite wisdom assumes it’s talking to the audience who went to see American Sniper and watched Kyle kill the Iraqis he’d been sent to protect, and so the widow is the living link to that carnage. I go to movies a lot and rent and stream a lot of films, but I won’t go near this one.

Those who hate this president will lash out at him when he does something as trivial as wear a tan suit, if you recall that dust up from about a year ago. An N word debate is like raw red meat to the crazy beasts in the Fox zoo.

I’m trying to figure out why we should care what this woman thinks without sounding like a complete asshole and I’m not succeeding. But really, why?

George Carlin (RIP) was on this. Of course, the talking twits at Fox don’t give a damn about context.

I guess she didn’t get the memo,
“President Obama must never be right about anything, ever” …Roger Ailes/Rupert Murdock

as for all the “fall-out”…oh god the only falling is the men on this panel when they collectively fell on their heads.

The truth bothers people sometimes and the point the president was trying to make was that just because you don’t say the n word does not mean you are still not a racist.

Of course the President had a fair point. Roughly the entirety of conservatism is basically demanding a gold star for not dropping the N-bomb. It’s about time someone stepped up and informed it doesn’t work that way.

Yo, Skippy. I did not realize there was some secret test or standard that people had to meet before they were allowed to express an opinion. When are you going to let the media know about your standards?

Hey, white people! Use the N-word all you want! You can whitesplain that you are using it because Obama used it as you are picking up your teeth!

“As a black man, there are — there’s only one time I’ll use the N-word is when I feel like I’m being treated like the N-word and I want to make a statement,” Payne said. “There’s only one thing worse than the N-word and that’s being treated like the N-word.”

Smiley

“I think in the way the President used it was totally out of context,” Payne said. “He didn’t have to say it right there. There was no passion, anger, animosity.

" He was going for us to talk about it today"

Here’s a crazy thought…stop talking about it then.

omg my head hurts now.

What?

You might have noticed that guests on news shows are always introduced with their name and their affiliation, which generally shows their relevance to the topic at hand. Like “Retired Army General” to talk about military news or “Forensic Psychologist” to discuss a missing person. You don’t often see “Producer’s Nephew” or “Sally the Receptionist” or “Guy We Shared a Cab With This Morning”, no matter how strong those people’s desire to share their opinions.

That’s the test, and it’s not mine, it’s pretty much every news producer’s. No disrespect to Taya Kyle, but again, why do we care about her opinion on Obama and the ‘n-word’? (The answer, as others have stated, is that we don’t – the Fox producers put her on because she’s popular and sympathetic and they thought they’d leverage that by having her parrot their viewpoints, but she didn’t so probably won’t be on much anymore.)

Indeed. More than 6 years with this n***** president in OUR White House, and we haven’t actually called him n***** yet as we demand to take back our country. See, we’re not racist. Where’s our prize?

who cares what this woman thinks? why in the hell is she even commenting on this – i guess fox is grooming her for an eventual teevee gig. so why does tpm feel it necessary to provide her with more attention?

and honestly, the use of ‘the n-word’ instead of ‘nigger’ is one of the stupidest issues taking up space.

There’s an n-word and an f-word and a c-word and heaven only knows how many kindergarten euphemisms. Mr. Payne is a fine example of the t-word. T for Tom.

I guess I could have been more clear. “To use” as in to use the word pejoratively against another person. You are using the word as it was intended. When you use it in the context of discussing it you are not using it as intended but rather using it as an object of discussion, which I am alright with. Is that clearer?
