Ummm, WTF does her opinion on this matter? Who cares what she thinks?
She married a guy, made a shit-load of money off of the rubes from HIS BOOK, and that qualifies her to appear on a news show (using the word loosely, it is FOX after all) and pontificate on the Presidents’ use of an EPITHET?
Slow news day over at FAUX News?
No…Mr.Payne heard what President Obama said. He really understands the context, but, since he’s Faux resident House Negro, he has to pretend like the President used the word like a rapper!
Numbskull ! Ha ha ha ha ha Rim shot…that’s killer man ha ha ha ha …
I think it’s just pure 'Murica ARE TROOPS!!! that makes no rational sense to most people but resonates with the lizard brains of their usual audience. We’re getting closer to a point where Fox News just conducts these shows out of the beds of American flag and Jesus airbrushed monster trucks. Kudos to Taya Kyle for the minor backfire to their intended narrative though.
If people want to discuss the word, that’s fine. Using the word is another matter. Intent means a lot. I also like the general rule that has it that the marginalized people the word denigrates are entitled to use it however they want. They have it used against them, so they own it.
Yet, how can you discuss it when you are afraid to use it? It’s very hard to take someone serious when they are constantly using euphemisms like they are afraid someone will over hear them. Even when they say “n-word” they lower their voice and look around to make sure no one overheard. I’m not saying that you should use it in a derogatory way, or even that there are really any times outside of discussing it’s impact and history that it is valid to use.
If you have a reason for saying it though, use it. If you want to take the power away from the word you can’t be afraid to say it yourself.
Ms. Kyle won’t be asked back, I imagine.
I wonder though, do they have a farm system over at Foxy Nooz?
Or do they just rely on local news stations and word of mouth?
I thought the same thing. Why ask her?
Really, she responded the way I would expect a normal person to respond.
Maybe it’s just that she was the only one handy not already assimilated into the hive mind that is Foxy Nooz and this was kind of a…screen test.
Methinks she didn’t pass.
How long do you expect to live?
It will be there long after we’re gone.
FIFY Glad to help
Because she is being positioned exactly BECAUSE of who her husband was and his death, as the new right wing darling mouthpiece.
Episodes like this however, will probably mean she is going to have a short career. She is going off reservation here and Fox won’t put up with that for long.
Just arrived in this country?
That’s much too reasonable!
Generally, we prefer faux outrage to go with our faux news.
I could not disagree with you more.
Special words and special treatment for special people leads us to a world of has and has not.
It’s funny how people who have a problem with PBO using the “n-word” never much liked him anyway. What a coincidence. Just typical knee-jerk whatever Obama says/does, put me on the opposite side attitude.
President Obama shows yet again that he’s the only adult in the room.
They are going to beat this dead horse all the way to the next election.
You can’t discuss whether or not it’s “presidential” for the first black president to use the word. HE’S THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, FFS. You have no precedent by which to stake your ground, other than the parade of WHITE GUYS who used it before him, and every single one of them would have used it in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CONTEXT.
I am already exhausted by the stupidity.
Just curious: Why does anyone care what the sniper’s widow has to say about anything other than the movie about her husband’s life, his untimely death, or what it is like to be his widow? No offense to her; I am sure that she is very nice and is a courageous woman, but why is her opinion of the POTUS’s statement relevant?
Wait, I am trying to make sense of Fox News. What the hell am I thinking.
Completely agree that this is mostly just knee-jerk Obama hate. But I think there is an additional component to it which is that many of these people are actually upset because they think that Obama just called them racist. So because his message hit a little too close to home with them, they are lashing out at him for the language that he used in order to avoid discussing or giving credit to the content of his message. It is a pretty common argument style for people to lash out at the way the message was delivered to them when they don’t like the contents of the message itself.
As I tell my students, not even the Grand Wizard wakes up in the morning, looks in the mirror, and says, “Good morning, you hateful bigot.” Racists, xenophobes, and homophobes must demonize the target of their ire to justify their attitudes. You are absolutely right, Ex. His use of the word cracked that mirror.
Absolutely fatal to a Fox News gig.
