If a stay request is denied, the House gets Trump’s tax returns. They then can examine Trump’s conflicts and crimes.
he hopes to pass on to his entitled incompetent grifter shitbag offspring.
Austin, Austin, Austin – don’t hold it in, man. Tell us how you really feel about the apples that fell from the senescent Trump tree.
I am genuinely hard pressed to think of person deserving of a good curb-stomping than charming Don Jr. He oozes privileged idiocy in everything he says, does, and tweets.
Ivanka is held up as this conservative paragon of the savvy self made successful feminist entrepreneur when if it were not for her father’s connections she would have been just another mediocre Manhattan socialite. As for her business acumen – it is as genuine as Jr’s beard and sportsman big game rugged hunter image.
And poor Eric. I would cut him some slack, but he regularly goes on Fox and dutifully tweets anti-immigrant fear mongering race baiting hateful nonsense in lock step support of dear old Dad so… yeah… fuck him as well.
I did unfortunately cast asparagus on poor little Tiffany with my broad missive so for Tiff, I do apologize. I am sure she is delightful… and down to earth. And doing good things with her unearned access to power and privilege.
Americans elected Hair Führer and his progeny IMHO are emblematic of all that is wrong in that country right now.
True cause if the situation was reversed the gop would have been asking for the dems taxes the minute they were sworn in
Tiffany Trump is an interesting experiment in nature vs. nurture. So far, nurture appears to have the upper hand. Perhaps the nicest thing anyone can say about her is, “Oh yeah. Tiffany Trump. I forgot about her…”
FTR, I have no more brief for the Trump progeny than you.
Well, at the very least, the screeching about taxes and the Mueller report just make him look more guilty, with more to hide, etc. So, again, he’s not fooling anyone. BTW, Charles Blow at the NYT has a piece about how Trump has somehow risen to folk hero status among his supporters - it’s one of the more perceptive pieces I’ve read. Answers some of the endless asking of what would it take … but we all know the answer.
The Trump game here is simply to run out the clock.
Step one - refuse the request.
Step two - after the Committee issues a subpoena, either (a) move to quash or (b) more likely simply do not comply.
Step three - the entire House must then authorize an enforcement action in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Step four - ruling by the District Court.
Step five - appeal to the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
Step six - review by the Supreme Court.
Now, even if things proceed at full speed the Court of Appeals decision will not be rendered until late 2019 at the earliest. The cert petition will be filed in early 2020. If the Supreme Court grants cert it is likely that it will be scheduled for October 2020, and the decision will come AFTER the 2020 election.
If somehow things go on a really fast track, the Supreme Court will get the case in the fall of 2019 and schedule argument for the spring. So the ruling will come out in June, and the tax returns will be made available to the Committee in the late summer … and probably will not become public before the election.
No subpoena required. Straight to lawsuit. If it can’t be expedited, all these appeals keep issue in the news - so everyone starts to question “what is trump hiding”?
Which will give Democrats a good talking point. But no more than that–everyone is already on one side or another about the returns. Either that Trump is cheating, or that it doesn’t matter that he’s cheating.
Tiffany and her mom live in California, she doesn’t seem to show up for the photo ops the rest of the spawn show up for, but what is you think she can or should do to cut ties to the father she didn’t ask for (and whose infants breasts he really admired).
I read that too, and I’m surprised that he doesn’t have millions more admirers since he’s the only topic cable TV presents. It’s as if there is nothing else going on worthy of our attention except what he does and says. There’s TrumpWorld and then there’s a void.
Which is why the Mueller report must be released to congress in fully unredacted form, Mueller’s public summaries must be released to the public in fully unredacted form, and aggressive investigations be conducted by all relevant committees if the Mueller report and the findings of other investigations into Trump at the federal and state level merit it, which of course they’re all but certain to on multiple fronts, e.g. intelligence, espionage, foreign infiltration of our electoral and political systems and IT infrastructure, fraud, corruption, emoluments, bribery, self-dealing, obstruction, etc. There’s just SO much to investigate and they’re just getting started.
If it’s even 20% as bad as we believe it is and the evidence to support it exists and makes its way to congress, there’s a very good chance he’s impeached and removed, resigns, or succumbs to the pressure and expires. And even if he survives it all and is on the ballot in 2020, he loses, because of all this. This is where I differ from “alt-left” types like GG, Gessen, Taibbi, etc. Our best chance at defeating Trump, Trumpism and the GOP is the Mueller report and related probes and reports, not on policy. Swing voters, on whom elections swing (along with GOTV), don’t pay attention to policy. They do notice controversy, and this only hurts Trump and the GOP.
These things can be fast-tracked, plus being sued and investigated is never a political positive. He doesn’t win with his steady 38-42% support. He needs to get that number up to 46, 48, 50%, and I just don’t see that under this cloud. Even if Dems don’t “get” him before the election, they “get” him in the election.
Tiffany Trump is currently a student at Georgetown Law School. Make of that what you will.
Neal is a weenie. Should have bought out the big guns like AOC. This is just more of the same crap that we got tired of and then got our asses kicked with. Show some spine Neal or get the hell out of the way.
The headline is clickbait, but the article is not. I’ve complained about headlines at TPM before.
Speaking of Dems, did ya’ll see that Nancy Pelosi is the recipient of the Profiles in Courage award?
This is one of the craziest things you’ve ever written here! What on earth?
You are so wrong on this topic, I don’t know where to begin. The obvious intent with Neal’s approach is to make the request bulletproof and to get enough information to get them what they want. They know that there is a possibility the tax request could get thrown out of court based on a technicality. The odds may be small, but it does exist. They did their homework so they firmly believe that this request, over a six year period for most of Trump’s activities will get them what they want. If it accomplishes those two objectives, the request is a success.
Nice point. I, too, learn a lot from other TPM groupies, at least as much as I do from the expert guests on, say, Rachel. I liken it to a cocktail party with educated, witty guests from various fields. Frankly, I haven’t been to one such in a few years, but they’re memorable.
