N = ?

Is this a phenomenon, or a few loonies with access to media exposure?

If the latter, how about we let them go on their way uncelebrated?

This is basically a white supremacist family argument. One faction wants to promote the lie that the confederacy had a multicultural army of soldiers, the other is appalled that anyone would erect a monument to black people.

I hope this conflict turns violent and its participants go full “Sons of Anarchy” on each other.

This is what happens when you support racists. Welcome to a cultural deadend

Seriously
Years ago they would have been relegated to a soapbox in the park screaming at the sky shaking their fists in the air while mothers hurried their children past the crazy man.
Now they have social media

Because it’s all about honoring heritage and history.

The next logical step is to erect statues honoring Log Cabin Confederates.

Or black confederate officers.

If I had the energy and some computer skills, I could spoof those idiots with stories of gay confederate soldiers and their lovers, fighting to save their freedom.

How sweet. Some Confederate supporters want us to think the secession had very little to do with slavery and another group wants us to think it was all about slavery. How very odd to agree with the white supremacists.

Finally, in this time of extreme partisanship, something we can all agree on: That attempting to honor black Confederates is a bad idea. Perhaps we have different reasons for thinking that is so, but at least we can agree on that. Now, let’s all join hands…
