Discussion: White House Releases Tax Info Ahead of Maddow Exclusive

But the WH is not authentic.

I doubt it. The 40% of Trump lovers will love him regardless and the rest of the people have plenty of reasons why they can’t stand him that are more important than his tax returns.

The meat is almost certainly in the corporate tax returns anyway, not his personal returns, which will simply aggregate the bottom lines from his various corporate returns. That’s something most people are ignoring…

You weren’t here the night I posted Steely Dan’s “Everything Must Go,” were you?

Thankfully, the moment passed …

A tactical error. As someone said above, it should have been handled better. But I maintain the WH was behind the 1040 release. If we never hear anything about DT threatening to sue MSNBC or Rachel or anyone over this, despite the discovery and all the rest of the possibilities, I am going with him leaking it himself. Time will tell.

I’d love this to be the dam breaking. But I’m quite certain that it’s not. Not by a long shot. At worse it’s embarrassing. This is no different than the Billy Bush tape and the revelation of sexual assault. I thought that was the dam breaking. Again, not by a long shot. I wouldn’t be surprised if this stuff makes him stronger. Putin giving a speech to a joint session of congress wouldn’t be the dam breaking at this point. Perhaps Americans being conscripted to fight in the Russian army might cause the masses to stir, but at this point I’m not sure anything will destroy Trump and his presidency. The country will be long dead and gone but Trump will still be president of something.

So all she had to do was say she would talk about them and trump folded ? Such a tough negotiator. Explains why russia think trump is their bitch

Well, lots of folks around here are not having that. It’s a sham! Fire the producer! Rachel has some explaining to do! Squirrel! Tactical error! Oh my God we’re doomed!
Good grief.

No, your concern about healthcare and mine is not going away, but the press is remarkably fickle and I’m talking about the press. I want them to stay on AHCA for a good long time. Too many of the people who need to know what the consequences will be for them are remarkably immune to information. They need to hear it over and over. Only the press can do that.

And even if it doesn’t pass, they need to hear over and over that this bill was designed to screw them. It’s important that they get that into their heads even if they consciously reject the idea. Subconsciously, the information will still be there.

And I think that’s important. Sorry if you think the press can move on now. I just don’t.

Or maybe Russia thinks Trump is their bitch because he is their bitch. Just saying.

What precisely would you have her do differently? The only thing I can think of is instead of saying “taxes”, say “portion of his taxes”. What reporter would have sat on this?

She should have presented it of course, but not made it a full show with a countdown clock.

At the very least I wouldn’t have hyped it that much if I had decided to report it now.

edit: What radical said just above.

Someone way at the top of this thread says this was Al Capone’s vault. I concur. I want some juicy illegality I can sink my teeth into.

Trump ain’t gonna release his taxes. These people need to get used to this and have someone clandestinely send them the rest…otherwise it ain’t happening.

This fucking Congress won’t order them to be released for their perusal, which they could, so that’s where we’re at. The GOP is protecting this monster from constant self-dealing while in office. Why would anyone expect them to demand obtaining years of him doing that before he got into office? Its nothing but a den of thieves. They all protect each other from exposure to malfeasance. One hand washes the other. These are not public servants. These are greedy rotten thieves.

And with that…Laila Tov (goodnight)

I doubt the theory that Trump released the returns to distract us.

  1. There are much better ways to do that than by reminding everyone of his failure to disclose his taxes.

  2. The returns are too innocuous to overwhelm AHA or Comey, which will be all over the news tomorrow. Consumers of news are no longer detained by yesterday’s headlines.

  3. Trump no doubt viscerally hates this reporter and would never give him the public kudos and spinoff $$ that Trump himself craves more than anything.

Someone above mentioned (and I apologize for not remembering who) that it might have been good to talk about the AMT, how it benefitted him on his taxes, and its position in his future tax re-structuring proposal.

Might have been one way.

It’s just the steady drip, drip, drip, that will eventually turn into a torrent that will wash the Orange Hot Air Buffoon out of office.

Fingers crossed…

I assume you mean this about Comey:

This was a nothingburger. But I just found out about this which will certainly be a somethingburger: (From Seth Abramson) “Comey will reveal the presence or absence of an investigation into Trump and associates tomorrow, per CNN and other reports.” He’s supposedly going to do that tomorrow.
Big news, potentially.

Yup … one of the sons has already tweeted something to the effect of thanking Rachel for showing the world that his dad paid 40 million in taxes.

Agreed. This tweet set the expectation just too high. (Seriously) is right…
