And Sanders still didn’t explain why not only did they not fire Porter, but were actually going to give him a promotion!! You’d think they’d make an effort to speak with either the FBI or personnel office before they did so. I’m not up on regular press briefing protocols, but if you’re going to read a canned statement scapegoating a WH office, if you were truly intending to be sincere, wouldn’t you bring along a spokesperson for the office in question to field follow-up questions? And even if you had no intention of being honest, at least they could presumably come up with lies that provide a veneer of plausible deniability, rather than looking like you were caught flat-footed.
