I would be surprised if John Kelly was not involved in providing the underlying idea, refining the design and implementation and vetting the delivery of this attack by Preshitident Anusmouth-Putindickholster. The attack on President Obama’s patriotism and the White House response to the follow-up question was appears premeditated and planned with the full approval of John Kelly and possibly many others in the military-mercenary complex.

A competent Chief of Staff would have a figurative army of public relations experts, staffers, junior staffers, interns, junior interns, etc. on standby, to help the President do one God damned thing right, without turning it into a major league shit show.
Among the least brainy of no-brainers might be to have someone write the name of the deceased on a cue card or something, to create the illusion of a Commander in Chief who damned well knows the name of the Sergeant whose widow he finally got around to calling after 13 inexcusable days.

Frankly, if the widow, the mother, and the others in the family felt a lack of respect, the proper response isn’t to say, “I never did that, and I have PROOF!” but, “Oh. I must have spoken clumsily and badly, and I’m very sorry. Now that I hear their response, I can tell that my words were indeed inappropriate.”
But of course, he can’t do that, and his minions will (at least according to Sanders, who lies like a rug) always back him up. Are we really going to next have John Kelly hangdoggedly say, “It was respectful! That widow and bereaved parents are lying!”

What’s the point of asking any Trump staffer their opinion on anything, when we already know they’re required to always support whatever Trump does in every way? That’s not even hyperbole, since they openly say that total loyalty to Trump is a requirement for the job. Trump might as well just ask his sock puppet to defend him, since at least then we’d get an interesting answer.

@fgs Agreed. A functioning Chief of Staff is there to tell POTUS what he doesn’t want to hear. But when Kelly along with the other brass in his administration is part of “my generals”, which denotes ownership of them, we can’t expect anything more.
He believes he’s omnipotent, therefore; any “fall” is an orchestrated one designed by his jealous enemies. His wraiths are there to assume blame for failing him somehow.
What I’ll never get is why anyone would think they could get within ten feet of him and not be tainted. Kelly could have said no in the beginning. Now as the Executive Director of the Adult Daycare Center he is soaking in the acid bath that is the 45 WH. He created his own reality.

It was a horribly dreadful call. So dreadful that it would have been far better had it never been made.
But I have no doubt that it was the best that Chiselin’ Trump could do.
The press were not the first to bring up Kelly’s son, that was our President. Trump was trying to deflect about not mentioning the Green Berets killed in Niger. No one asked him if he talked to the families, but he never mentioned their loss of life. You know something like “It saddens me to report that on ________day four brave Green Berets lost their lives in Niger. They were helping to defend the US and the world against ISIS.” This whole shit storm which has spawned mini shit tornadoes was all his own fault.
A heart isn’t necessary. A functioning brain is enough to fake sympathy and have a script to read that was written by someone with a heart. Trump can’t even manage that.
Here’s an article about the letter Trump wrote after John Travolta’s son died, where the main emphasis was on how Travolta’s wife once turned Trump down when he made moves on her; unaware that she was married and he’s an unlovable pig. Only a narcissistic twat could possibly think this was acceptable. It’s one thing to be bad at sympathy while talking to the bereaved, but he couldn’t even do it in the written form. The only good line is the final one and I’m guessing it was written by whoever took dictation of the rest of the letter.
