Discussion: White House: Kelly Thought Trump's Call To Soldier's Widow Was 'Respectful'

chief of staff John Kelly thought Trump’s phone call to the widow of a U.S. soldier killed in Niger was “respectful” and “completely appropriate.”

Which tells me he wasn’t in the room when Dump made the call.

So is it safe to assume that Kelly is now Two Scoop’s newest c*ck-holster and ‘lovin’ it’?

he thought that the President did the best job he could under those circumstances

Those circumstances? Was it calling after 2 days without food or water (or paper towels)?

Or, was it the extreme humiliation of having to make a call you didn’t want to make?

Not really important given how distorted this all has become, but I believe Kelly’s son was married. If that was true, then the President would call the widow, not the father. Plus, there are casualty assistance officers in each Service who work with the families to find out what would be meaningful to them and how they want things to unfold. I would guess some say they do not want to talk to the President.

“He thought the call was respectful,”

Really? Is “I’m sure he knew what he was signing up for,” on his tombstone as a respectful epitaph?

I think that about sums it up. Except I think for all that, he is what passes for a “grownup” in this White House and there’s no question but that Trump will be more dangerous when, not if, he’s forced out.

No one who was one of the really good guys was ever going to serve in this administration. But by the standards of the Superfund Sty that is the Trump regime, he’s . . . what we got.

Kelly recently took his place behind the liar’s podium so he is now compromised. It becomes more surreal each day to see how far this jackass can push the limits of decency and still have supporters. Mitch and Paul are the two who should suffer most as they have the power to stop him.

It does not matter if Kelly or anyone else in the room believed Trump was respectful. The only persons who matter here are Myeisha Johnson and her family.

The timing of the call could not have been worse. The family was on their way to receive the remains of their beloved LaDavid Johnson. They had just learned an open casket service was not possible -something that was important to them. Myeisha and her children are going through a catastrophic loss. I wish for one little moment that Sarah Huckabee Sanders could try to imagine the sadness. Sarah, put yourself in Myeisha’s shoes. Try to show some real humanity.

More likely that Trump will complain about the widow being a Hillary supporter and whine about the fact that she didn’t call HIM!

I have a mixed but lean negative view on Kelly. I think his conduct at DHS should be investigated.

As a CoS to this PoS DOTUS I have a bit more sympathy. But David Frum put his finger on a problem that I see with how this government is functioning. As grateful as I am that Mattis, McMaster and Kelly are ignoring Trump’s orders, that process isn’t exactly constitutional. So in order to continue to have leverage to keep Trump from his worst instincts, they sell little pieces of their dignity to him on issues like this one (or more egregiously when McMaster fell on his sword when Trump shared classified info with the Russians). That’s no way to run a government and it does not stop Trump from asserting his constitutional authority as the POTUS. I respect that they are buying time, but it’s the Congress and the people who need to act.

I know the Nat Sec and Intel folks I follow on Twitter would not agree with this, but I’ll say it: It would be better if that crew resigned in a public way, told the country that Trump is a walking crisis and needs to be replaced, and put the burden on Congress and the cabinet to do its job whether it be 25-A or impeachment. The people need to be exhorted to protest in the streets, South Korea style, to remove this menace from our government and our lives.

The wheels have been off this government for at least 4 months. Kelly, McMaster and Mattis aren’t making things better. Trump is getting progressively worse and our international standing and our institutions are falling apart. To judge them by the standard of ‘well hey, I kept his small hands away from the nuclear football today, give me a medal!’ is absurd. We’re a Republic. We’re the longest running constitutional Democracy on planet earth. Let’s fucking act like it and demand that Trump resign or be forced out, with the military’s assistance if need be.

What was the question? I have trouble understanding why the press would bring up Kelly’s son without reason, particularly since Kelly is so quiet about it.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is an effing liar. Gen. Kelly needs to come forward and denounce Trump immediately, or else his chest full of medals raises him out of the ooze no higher than Trump. His call.

Kelly’s past leaves a lot to be desired. He seems to be a typical Rebpublican “tough guy”—which is to say, all discipline, little understanding. But I don’t believe anything Sanders says. She, and Spicer before her, lied constantly in blatant and provable ways—just like their boss. Do Republicans just lie for the fun of it?

Why do the Trumpists still support this lying-sack-of-crap president and his pathetic hench people? Here’s a short blog on the reason why:

If you agree, leave a comment. Enjoy!

Really, why should we care what Gen. Kelly thought. It’s what Mrs. Johnson thought and she’s grieving all over again because of moron’s “obtuse morality” as Steve Schmidt put it.

Kelly may well think the Orange Horror did the best job he could in his call but he also knows that Trump is totally lacking in empathy so his “best job” is pretty sorry.

I’m not going to criticize General Kelly. But i wish somebody would have the balls to straighten this piss poor excuse of a president out. He shits the bed weekly. He has to be called a LIAR to his face when he is lying and back it up.

Hubris coupled with a pathological level of enabling. A dangerous blend that will be Kelly’s undoing.

Every day that he continues participating in this charade, especially now with him and his late son being used as human shields, pushes him a little closer to an edge he won’t be able to back away from. When Trump goes down, and he will, he’ll pull Kelly off the cliff with him.
