Discussion: White House Aide Says He's 'Not Aware' Of Any Intent By Trump To Fire Mueller

When the best denial you can get is “not aware”, you’re fucked.

“So Mr. Short how often do you talk to the President?”
"Mr, Short weren’t you on Trump’s shithole list at the time this order was given to Mr. McGahn? Weren’t you trying to ‘repeal and not replace’ Obamacare?
“Are you saying Mr. Short that the President doesn’t make a move or talk to anyone without his entourage present? Are you all there for the AM tweets?”

This seems to be a favorite Republican talking point. ‘There’s no proof of collusion’. What investigation provides proof before it’s complete?

“Only Republican investigations!”

So he doesn’t know anything? Well, then please move out of the way and let those who do know something have the floor.

As for der Furor finding the investigation frustrating, perhaps Mr. Short mis-heard when Trump said he found it frightening.

Did anyone suggest you are a fucking liar?

Every time a Republican says, “There’s no proof of collusion,” a Watergate burglar gets his wings.

Yeah yeah Marc…we know. You are not ‘aware’ of Trump EVER doing anything ‘wrong’ but you ‘remember’ every single thing he has done ‘right’. Thanks.

“He feels like there’s been millions of dollars in taxpayer dollars spent, and no evidence yet of collusion,”

Must be true. Because every time Mueller uncovers such evidence he’ll call a press conference so the world knows.

The word “yet” was a Freudian slip.

So an “aide” lies to a journalist’s face and … well, that’s okay. This entire party is built on lies, contingent on lies, and exists TO lie. Sometimes it’s just too much to bear.

They’ve got the most unaware and forgetful troupe of clowns inhabiting the WH premises that ever walked upright.

I wish I could believe they were bright enough to reason that out. Of course then they might have been bright enough to avoid the need for investigation.

What does that mean exactly?

Four sources said he told McGahn to fire Mueller, and he decided to quit instead, so Trump backed down.

But Marcie Poo is ‘not aware.’

Hmmm. Whom to believe…

Just saw The Post. Made me feel a bit better that it was some pretty serious shit, and the country survived, although would we get a 6-3 Supreme Court decision today protecting the 1st amendment? Anyway, we loved the movie. Streep was brilliant as always. Kathryn Graham stuck it to the patriarchy, too. Yay!!

Also, a nice surprise. The older sister of one of my daughter’s high school friends was one of the editors for the movie. She worked with Michael Kahn. That was cool to see.

The evidence of coordinated activities between the Russians and the Trump campaign is clear and overwhelming. There are texts, testimony, emails, interviews, news reports which all confirm a pattern of repeated interactions and coordination between the Trump campaign and Russians with intermediary assistance by folks like Julian Assange.

Regarding Josh’s post that McGahn may have issued a pocket veto instead of having some dramatic confrontation with Trump threatening resignation, I do think the WAPO piece is closer to the truth. However, what is missing from both reports (and an interview Wolff gave w/Lawrence O’Donnell may shed some light here) is the role of Javanka. Wolff said that the NYT article may be accurate, but that the larger story is that Trump provides a daily constant din of noise about firing people for disloyalty and specifically about the Russia investigation. Trump mutters about Mueller and the investigation daily in a Gollum like trance.

It was Javanka and their crew of helpers (e.g., Hope Hicks and Stephen Miller) who enabled Trump to act on firing Comey. It was Javanka (acting through a crew of helpers) who aligned and enabled with Trump to respond to the Trump Tower meeting news report from the NYT by spreading a false cover story. Bannon, per Wolff, believes in both cases that Javanka did so to protect their own liability exposure (and that of the Kushner family).

Priebus and Bannon tried to stop or expressed their opposition to those 2 events + the attempted firing of Mueller. What determined whether they succeeded or failed? The role of Javanka. Trump wanted to fire Comey for months. Bannon and Priebus consistently opposed. It didn’t happen until Javanka weighed in and that crew of enablers accompanied Trump to Bedminister.

Priebus and Bannon were caught unaware with respect to the NYT scoop on the Trump Tower meeting. Bannon and Trump’s attorney Kasowitz were utterly shocked that Trump would push a false cover story on a matter being investigated and on a topic that sensitive. Why and how did it happen? Javanka and the enablers helped Trump to do it.

Why did the Mueller firing not happen? Probably, because Javanka did not weigh in as strongly.

That leaves McGahn, the seeming star in his own play. McGahn looks to me to be more malleable than he lets on. He looks to where the political winds are blowing and determines if there is a path he can find to avoid liability. He’s more consigliere than attorney. McGahn enabled the Comey firing. McGahn enabled the Flynn firing and likely enabled the false cover story that “Flynn lied to Pence”. McGahn did not enable the Mueller firing because it was a bridge too far. He doesn’t appear to have been involved (unless I am mistaken) with regard to the cover up of the Trump Tower meeting.

All of this proves that Trump’s level of corrupt intent is constant and those who can manipulate him do so.
