Maybe, just maybe, people are realizing that they don’t want a society where one can pull a lethal weapon anywhere, anytime with no consequences by claiming “I was afraid”

Didn’t this guy realize that if you’re a blue collar worker living alone in Detroit, you’re the one who’s supposed to get shot in a glorious martyrdom, then leave your ethnic neighbor your immaculately restored early 1970s muscle car?

I feel for him. But people have to realize human life is not that cheap. He says he wasn’t going to cower in HIS home? So he’ll recklessly take a human life instead, no questions asked, all to satisfy his fear because HIS life is that much more important???!!! What of other people’s lives? What makes other people’s lives of lesser value.
I’m not celebrating because this is still a tragedy. But good call, jury. This is progress, a first small step. But there’s much more to do.,
I have to wonder, had it been a young black male would we still have justice. Trayvon was unarmed too.

Zimmerman jury are a disgrace, will always be. Then again, Wafer couldn’t claim McBride was armed with the sidewalk. Still a disgrace.

If someone is banging on your door at 4:30 in the morning, you pick up the phone, dial 911 and tell them that you “fear” someone is trying to break into your house. The police will get there in a nano-second.

We’ll see. Hopefully, we’ll get justice. He’s been convicted on 3 serious counts. No way he’s not doing serious time. This is not supremacist Florida so there’s hope. The litmus test will be if he can get any technicality on appeal. I doubt it but that’s the last option left to him now. People can’t just put their lives on such a HIGH pedestal just based on assumptions and devalue that of others on that same pedestal. It makes no logical sense. It really just doesn’t.

Trayvon, and don’t forget Jordan Davis and Jonathan Ferrell who were all as unarmed as Renisha but were Black males, and in America Black men and boys are still pretty expendable. I’m thrilled there’s justice here and hope Jonathan Ferrell’s killer gets as much or more time.
If you’re afraid someone is outside trying to break in, you don’t open the door and get in a confrontation with them. You pick up the phone and call the police. If they don’t arrive in time and someone does come in your house then you shoot them if you feel threatened.

Exactly. His behavior of opening the screen door directly conflicts with his assertion that he was in fear for his life. Frightened people hide and cower not open the door so the threatening party can have access to them. Clearly he was NOT afraid, he wanted to show his chops because the gun made him feel powerful. He’s a liar and a murderer.

He didn’t even try to call the police until after he’d bagged a human life. Shows you how serious this wanker is about being afraid. Yeah, right.

Lets review. If someone is banging on your door at 4:30 and your are afraid for your life, you should:
A. Keep door closed and call for help.
B. Open door and shoot to kill.
All those who chose A are free to go.

In my town (a college town) a few years ago a drunken student went to the wrong house after the sun was up, pounded on the door when he thought his roommates were punking him, and was shot dead by a shotgun blast through the closed door even though the daughter of the old man who shot him had already called police and begged him to wait. No charges were even filed.

I don’t understand why he thinks the corollary of cowering in his house is blowing someone’s head off. It’s not either or. He could have (a) called the police; and/or (b) gone to an upstairs window and yelled out to the person on the porch whether they needed help, or told them to go away or anything else but what he did.
He was not in imminent danger even if he was in imminent distress at having been awakened at 4:30 am.

Justice is done, if you are afraid just keep the damn door closed. If they break it down, only then you can shoot.
This verdict also proves that the system isn’t always biased against blacks, you don’t get away with murder just because you are white.
