Discussion: What We Now Know About The Nearly Completed Cohen Criminal Probe

Anyone want to bet if it were Hillary there would be no hesitation about filing charges, regardless of the election schedule?

Anyone?

Anyone?

I think he was given that name by Charlie Pierce of Esquire who has written about the effects of Agent Orange (which moronic occupant thought was the same as napalm), so when his thoughts turned to PP he naturally turned to the most toxic, killing substance he was familiar with.

MICHAEL SCHMIDT. Remember that name. He co-wrote the article. If you think only the woman writer is involved in lies, you’re wrong.

All this agitation over the DOJ guideline seems to be based on incomplete, possible specious, information I think.
My understanding is that (1) this is not written anywhere in any manual or regulation that pertains to DOJ procedure. I think it literally is an unwritten rule. As such, who knows what it really says. But that leads me to my second point.
(B) I think it is at least plausible that the very fact that Cohen is not a candidate and Trump is not running this fall should militate in favor of an understanding that the “rule” in fact does not /should not apply in this instance. Others have made that point here. I just think a lot of journalists/pundits assume that the clock freezes on any news coming out of DOJ and/or SC’s office from Labor Day until after the election. I would think that is a broad reading of the rule that may be without basis.
I also tend to think that while Mueller certainly seems to be a stickler for procedure, that he would also want things to progress as quickly as is prudent and that might include announcements in the window between Sept/Nov if, in his office’s interpretation, that the unwritten rule would not be ‘violated.’

Well, to be fair, this is coming from Maggie Haberman and Mike Schmidt. The fact is, they and their “sources” have no idea on what time frame the SDNY and/or Mueller will proceed. I call bullshit.

so to what end was this story leaked? Who benefits from the leak? Why now?
Can Agent Orange benefit from seeing his consigliere busted?
Not sure who’s trying to gain an edge here.
If it was OSC running the investigation it would have a blanket of silence on it until the indictments hit.

“NYT article co-written by Maggie Haberman”. Methinks you are overprotective of the sisterhood at times LBG. I explicitly said co-written by Maggie because I knew you would not want anyone piling sole blame on Maggie for including this fable in the article.

Schmidt and Haberman have had their bylines on a lot of stories that have left bad tastes in my mouth over the past year. Lots of things cast as obvious facts that are not so ironclad, assuming unwarranted premises that benefit Trump. I always have my antenna up when I’m reading one of their “scoops.”

OT, darrtown, but is that photo a Catahoula Leopard Dog? Looks like mine does

I have tried, as a matter of common courtesy, to include Schmidt’s name as coauthor, but having heard both of them being interviewed, one could reasonably be convinced that Maggs is the ‘brains’ of this particular relationship.

There’s no such thing as being TOO protective of the sisterhood. We’re all in it together. Nevertheless here’s a comment from a reader at NYT on this same story. It’s a NYT pick and it drew nearly 600 positive replies. Read it, don’t read it. It’s from someone who isn’t paranoid about the two Ms but rather clear headed about the point of the story. Would that I could express myself so clearly.

"an early strategy of full cooperation with the inquiry was a potentially damaging mistake.”

Well, his legal team is one huge swing and a miss, to employ a baseball term for coming up empty.

Donald Trump assumed office as a man ignorant of the Constitution and the executive’s privileges; and of politics and history.

What No. 45 never knew, or cared to learn, is that the White House counsel’s job title is not to protect the person who sits in the Oval Office but the institution of the presidency. The American presidency is the most important position in the world. It’s not surprising that such a careless, indifferent approach to acting as the president’s attorneys was completely misunderstood by the flies buzzing around the smelly door, searching for influence and to serve a president who had no idea what he was supposed to do.

The legal “advice” that has been imparted to the president is so poor in its quality and lacking in any thoroughness and detailed research as to be laughable. Now that Donald McGahn has given Robert Mueller a wide, long look into the president’s “thinking” about “the Russia thing,” the Special Counsel, it appears, wouldn’t need the president to sit for an interview with him. Indeed, without the president knowing what McGahn told Mueller, it is highly likely that he could perjure himself by answering the first question.

McGahn used his parachute with Mueller. Trump no longer has one.

Not an OT subject in our home. Murphy is a 9 year old Red Tick Coonhound. the avatar image was taken when she was probably 6 months old. She shares our house with three cats, Mrs darr, and me. I hold that the word “pet” is a pejorative term. We have companions, not pets since they are not objects we own but souls in their own right. I am familiar with several Catahoula Leopard dogs and they’re great dogs.
Here’s a better image of our pooch.

The question isn’t whether Cohen will flip, the question is whether he has any info the DOJ needs from him that they don’t already have from other sources.

I really wonder whether Cohen is about to learn an object lesson on the subject of opportunity cost.

I suspect trump never knew he was in a position to need a parachute since he thinks he can reorder reality on a whim. Mrs Karma is not forgiving. Neither is gravity.

At the very least, announce indictments no less than 11 days before the election of people who are not Michael Cohen.

Ok so what’s the pecking order in the darrtown household? Are there alliances and factions?

“A lot of the Media” dare not bite the hand that feeds them.

They got to where they are in the MSM by sucking up to the Rich and Powerful and they know who signs their paychecks, the friends of those very same Rich and Powerful (and in some cases, the same people.)

If all you got is looking pretty while reading a teleprompter, you don’t “rock the boat”.
