Not quite. McConnell needs to bring the funding bills passed by the House to a vote.
He consistently prevents that from happening.

I assume reopening would include backpay. IIRC Congress (or at least the House) already passed a bill to the effect.
Yes, getting a month of back pay is a BFD.
But the āno wallā bill would be a two week ākick the can down the road so the Mad Puppet can have his SOTU fix and we donāt inconvenience the Super Bowl public.ā

Pundits ought to be pounding the Republicans on the pettiness of using government services as a cudgel in negotiating policy. They had control of both chambers and the Presidency for two years, but didnāt build that wall. Punishing people and industries that depend upon the governmentās integrity is worse than childish, its a betrayal of the fundamental duty of the electeds to serve the nation.
