Why is she even giving a press briefing? Trump changes his mind so often and she lies so much, there’s no point in listening to what she says.

Trump has to keep the pretense of a hostage so that he can maintain the illusion that he is in control, and has the upper hand in the current discussion. His need to boast and dominate took a real beating. My bet is still that he goes the “national emergency” route, It will probably get tied up in the courts, but that may look better than his current impotence, and it has the appearance of being a power move (at least his base will see it that way).

Yeah sure. And Americans are stocking up on torches, pitchforks and trebutines for just that eventuality.

He’ll shut it down again roughly around the time they start selling Sno-Cones in hell.

In Donnie’s mind this is a “rolling emergency,” not an imminent emergency. What a jackass, either it’s an emergency or it’s not. Answer: It’s not.

Executive action? Like declaring a national emergency?

As far as emergencies go, it’s a good thing this one is still under development and doesn’t necessitate taking immediate action.

“This emergency is … is … it’s like roasting roadkill,” she said, before offering up a cherished family recipe for Tire-track Squirrel. “The secret is low and slow.”

Can someone PLEASE buy the WH a copy of Webster’s?

They really don’t understand the meaning of the word “negotiation”.

“Gimme everything I want” is NOT a negotiation.

But in the Republican party, compromise is a dirty word.

What will Mueller bring about by that time?
What will Nancy The Mighty do?
What will people like Harris do, now that all kinds of jabs can be inserted into campaign language?

It’s his best and the only way out of a no-win situation. Yes, he’ll make more enemies on the Hill and among the American people, but it’s still his best move to avoid looking even weaker than he already does. I’m not even sure that’s possible.

Has been since the 1960’s at least.

Sanders: “The President doesn’t want to go through another shutdown.”

Nor to about 325 million Americans. Are you listening Donnie?

I guess the first time he felt Pelosi’s boot in his crotch didn’t teach him the lesson fully. Got it.

I’m sure another Trump-led shutdown is exactly what the rest of the sycophant GOP wants. We’ll see how much stomach they have for Dear Leader’s next scheduled tantrum.

That, and by going the emergency route he won’t have to further upset his already upset orcs by making a deal on DACA or other similar concession.

Government shutdowns are a political construct. At one time Congress thought the threat of a shutdown would force them to produce appropriations bills on time, but it hasn’t worked that way. The unintended consequences are there for all to see, and it would be easy to fix.

And after the Republicans in Congress repudiate the thugs in the White House, will SHS stick with The Leader, or go with Die Partei?

Inquiring minds, and so forth.

Mitch McConnell on the last shutdown: “Do you think I’m enjoying this?”

For a guy who said his greatest moment was denying Merrick Garland a hearing and vote for the SCOTUS I would guess, yes - he’s enjoying it.

No he wasn’t. That was said during the screaming lunch with Pence and McConnell and a bunch of GOP senators who also did not enjoy the shutdown.
