Discussion: WATCH: Ind. Guv Won't Say Whether New Law Allows LGBT Discrimination

Discussion for article #234805

During an interview with ABC’s “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos, Pence said that critics of the legislation simply misunderstood it.

“I understand that there’s been a tremendous amount of misinformation and misunderstanding around this bill,” Pence said. “I’m just determined to clarify this.”

followed quickly by:

Stephanopoulos eventually moved on to ask the governor about potential for a clarification. On Saturday, Pence said he would support legislation to “clarify the intent of the law.”

The ABC host asked Pence if he would consider making sexual orientation a protected class under the state’s civil rights laws.

“I will not push for that. That’s not on my agenda and that’s not been an objective of the people of the state of Indiana. And it doesn’t have anything to do with this law,” Pence said.

Pence you cowardly, craven, spineless lying sack of vile, loathsome shit.

I always think that stories like this would make me feel better about my home state. “See, it’s not just Alabama that’s filled up with bigoted morons!”

But no, it always makes me think “shit, this state is just as awful as Alabama” and I get more depressed.

Who needs civil rights when you can have ¨Hoosier Hospitality,¨ right Pence? What a prevaricating putz.

Poor Gov. Pence. Not only has he allowed his insularity to blind-side him, he’s watching his higher political aspirations circle the drain. No VP in his future when clips from that interview are replayed. Totally avoidable and he willingly walked in to it.

Eschew obfuscation, Gov. Pence. Please.

Nothing to lose for him now. Might as well start pushing for forced vaginal ultrasounds

Yessir. This is a terrible political performance. All anyone has to do to know the answers to the questions he’s being asked is listen to what he is not saying.

The proponents of this bill keep saying what the legislation doesn’t do. What I’d like is for them to give me a specific example of the types of protection the bill DOES provide, and why such protections are necessary.
And BTW, with regard to what they claim the bill doesn’t do-they are lying.

And you know, some KKK member is going to say it’s against his religious beliefs to deal with any “mud” people and it will fall under the protections of this law.

Wow. This is the same exact argument that George Wallace used when he tried to pass similar legislation to allow racial discrimination in Alabama on religious grounds.

You know if your political argument is “It was good enough for George Wallace, its good enough for me”, you might want to reassess your position. Just a thought.

Gov. Pence is SHOCKED that opponents of the legislation with his signature on it are pointing out the consequences of that legislation.

Also too? He really is dumber than a sack of hammers, isn’t he?

I guess you should never say never but this isn’t something in the past he can claim to have “evolved” in his attitude toward. He’s in front of a national audience, thrashing about helplessly like a fish on dry land, unable to defend a bill he signed four days ago. Contemptible and stupid.

The problem with it is, compared to the other states passing it was that those all did happen 20 years ago. It was not right then either but many of those laws he is quoting actually have loopholes in the law to allow for the protection of other groups through other laws. Indiana does not, it was created by the biggest anti-gay legislatures and mostly handled in private.

It was an unneeded law and the fact that he cannot even say what the law will and will not do is a bit scary. Now if he were willing to support amendments to allow for those protections that fine, but he has said those are not his interest. Meaning he does not care.

The Christian Right has never been right, nor have they ever been right!

i’ll be willing to bet that the Indiana state senators and representatives have now quit backslapping and giving reacharounds to each other since this law blew up in their faces! I wonder how soon the blame game will start?

Watching this fecally fecund fucktard squirm as Stephanopolous kept repeating the question was reminiscent of that goon in Florida who just couldn’t let the words “climate change” pass his lips.

But of course, we already knew these sonsofbitches have no shame. To have shame, one must have a conscience. They consider conscience a weakness, and compassion a vulnerability to be exorcised.
