Discussion: Wasserman Schultz: Rubio Folded Like 'House of Cards' on Immigration

Discussion for article #235245

Sen. Rubio clearly can’t handle pressure. When he was tapped to give the GOP response to the State of the Union and couldn’t get thru a 10’ canned speech without grabbing awkwardly for his water bottle, we all learned something. The episode seems picayune, but on some level, being president requires a good measure of sang froid. Setting aside how you handle emergencies and tense international negotiations, navigating and maintaining your gravitas and credibility during the inevitable unexpected challenges of living under a spotlight–hecklers, uncooperative babies, meeting royalty etc. are all critical skills for being effective and Rubio (and, judging by his rollout last week, Sen. Paul, for that matter) appear woefully deficient in this regard.

“If Marco Rubio couldn’t even hack the pressure from the right wing tea party extremists,…how will he hack the presidency?”

No problem. He’ll just gulp water…

He knows he’ll never win a national election. He’s in it for the money. Who wants to bet that he’ll be releasing a book within the next several months? Whose sales will be helped because he is “running” for President.

Not only did Rubio fold like a cheap lawn chair on the immigration bill, he’s a relentless homophobe and an all-around moron.

Massive Derp and no hope for a cure.

I see these guys running who clearly have no chance, and I wonder why.
Is it the simple building of name recognition they get from all the free publicity?
Are they setting themselves up for a lucrative future on Fox News like Huckabee and Sarah Palin?
Maybe its just the increased speaking fees they’ll get as a former contender?
Are they hoping a qualified candidate will pick them as VP?

My guess is they look at all the above and figure that no matter what, a run puts money in their pocket, so why not?

Rubio is too immature at this point to run for president.

“Cynical”, “calloused” and 'bigoted" are not the magic passwords to get through the door at 1600.

Right on, Wasserman Shultz. The more we keep reminding them that Rubio was the front man on immigration reform, the more the base will hate him. Its the great big hot button for the rapid right this time around, a third rail of sorts within the GOP.

Ironically, it also really hurts them in Florida, which is absolutely crucial to their hopes at taking back the White House. Both GOP candidates from Florida are going to get a thumbs down from the base during the primary…specifically because of immigration reform.

Of course grifting does hold a certain allure for politicians running for President. But this is actually a pivotal election year for the GOP. The party is divided in ways it hasn’t been for a very long time, and no clear leader in either wing…let alone one that can unite both wings. So many of them see a real opportunity to move into the driver’ seat and set the national direction for the entire party. And, failing that, at least getting a seat at the table is a big deal for any of their political careers within the party.

I think that Huckabee is the only one truly on the grift so far. Bush, Walker, Rubio, Paul, Christie, Cruz…I believe they all believe that they have a real chance of doing something within the party. Santorum isn’t out and out grifting, nor does he have any real chance at grabbing power…he is merely suffering from his many self delusions…Onward Christian Soldier, there is another windmill over the next hill…that sort of thing.

Now, how grounded those individual beliefs are in reality…that’s an entirely different discussion.

No republican can get elected if they profess to do anything other than hate brown people, lower taxes, and bomb in the middle east. Anything else is an apostate to their core faith and will be eaten alive by the party faithful.

Is anyone taking Marco “I-can’t-remember-my-own-past” Rubio Seriously?
Oh Well, I suppose you have to. There’s nothing else to do but cover the impending Coronation,is there?
I suppose a bit of comedy is a welcome break from all the Pomp and Circumstance around HRC.

You don’t want a coronation? Then challenge Hillary.
