I love this woman. Really, really do.
Very interesting choice on Senator Warrenâs part in using the word âmoney grabberâ.
As we know, itâs a despicable stereotype of Jewish people and we also know many Trump supporters are white supremacists/anti-Semites.
Iâm sure the Senator realizes all thisâŚso she (subliminally) appears to be trying to put some space between Trump and some of his supporters
Throw Donald down the drain! I like it.
HmmmmmâŚpersonally, I would never have made the Jewish connection (despite my 60+ years, I tend to be naive on stuff like this, result of a liberal upbringing perhaps).
However, if it is an effective anti-Donnie dog-whistle for the âmany Trump supporters [who] are white supremacists/anti-Semitesâ then I am all for Sen Warren using it that way.
In my town, Rump wouldnât get so much as a truckload of gravel delivered without cash up front. In New York, his cash went to the mafia.
Finally, from media and political figures alike, some plain speaking about this strange, sick man. Heâs been spewing his propaganda like a broken sewer main without serious opposition for very close to a year now.
You say grabber. She said grubber. Small picky point and otherwise spot on to both of you.
What kind of a man does that?
Republican businessman/woman.
Yes, I knew what was meant was âgrubberâ but I usually donât correct such things from fellow commenters (I will, however, zing the journalists!).
A small, insecure money-grubber with itty-bitty hands.
I donât think âmoney-grubberâ (she said âgrubberâ not âgrabberâ) is anti-Semitic. Ganovim (thatâs Yiddish for thieves) come from all groups.
Granted, I didnât grow up around many Jewish folks, but Iâm with lizzymom, I didnât make that connection either. That said, with Senator Warren living in the Northeastâand, likely around many Jewish folksâshe might also be aware that many other people would never have made that connection either. Thanks for bringing it up, though, as I am aware of the general stereotype â just not this particular name, but itâs good to know.
Neither did I (despite my 70+ years). âMoney-grubberâ works for me across gender/ethnic/faith/you-name-it lines; and âdespicableâ is only a start on the descriptors. Little question that Sen. Warren has nailed Drumpf in these comments, but Iâm not sure how far her voice will reach behind the Wall of Cognitive Dissonance that so many of his supporters have erected. And undoubtedly many have suffered exactly the consequences she described. The power of âAmerica, Fuck Yeah!â and âMake America Great Againâ to deflect self-awareness and rational thought is breath-taking. Nevertheless, I applaud her every stroke in tearing this giant asshole a new one!
Actually, that means it is a classic political dog-whistle â a target audience (anti-Semites) will receive the intended message and everybody just takes the words at face value. An especially effective weapon because of the aspect of âplausible deniabilityâ in case of detection, i.e., âwhat? of course I didnât mean it that way, where on earth did you get that idea?â (Wikipedia has a nice quick overview of âpolitical dogwhistleâ if you are interestedâŚ)
Go Senator Warren! The best politician that money CANâT buy!
"If you donât have a seat at the table, itâs probably because youâre on the menu."
____ Senator Elizabeth Warren
Youâre right. I hope this was not her intent, but Iâll bet my next meal thatâs how some will portray it â intended or not. Either way, Iâm glad @pshah brought it up.
Edit to add: Iâm pretty sure Iâve used this term a time or two in my life, though without the knowledge of the Jewish stereotype. Now I feel bad â and thatâs why Iâm glad it was brought up, so Iâll not ever use it again.
If you google âmoney grubbing Jewâ, youâll get plenty of hits. Itâs a well-worn, contemptible stereotype.
WTF??? He said this?
WowâŚjustâŚwow.
I hope we use this comment in ads. That type of talk is despicable. (I know, I know, I should not be surprised butâŚdamn.)
Love meâ some Senator Warren! Her recent shredding of The Trump Chump is such icing on the cake for me. She has trolled the hell out of him and the self absorbed demagogic ego pimple canât help himself. He has to respond and he fails badly: She calls him out on his bullying tactics and hypocrisy and he validates everything sheâs said when he responds!
Elizabeth Warren needs to stay in the Senate and raise hell. While also a fine Senator, perhaps Al Franken should get the VP nod. Just point him at The Donnyâ and say, âMake make that egoistic hairball (more of) a laughingstock.â
