Discussion: WaPo: FBI Got FISA Warrant To Track Trump Aide Carter Page

Because they are arrogant idiots who think they can get away with anything?

I may have missed it, but has this been covered on TPM? I wonder what interesting things Mr. Levashov may have to say http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-39553250

It’s Wednesday morning and ain’t nobody happy.

Syria war: US-Russia ties worse under Trump, Putin says.

Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has registered as a candidate in Iran’s presidential election, despite being told not to by the Supreme Leader.
Mr Ahmadinejad, a hardliner who served two terms between 2005 and 2013, filed paperwork for the 19 May poll at the interior ministry in Tehran.
Last year, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned him that such a move was “not in his interest and that of the country”.
But Mr Ahmadinejad told reporters on Tuesday that had been “just advice”.
Associated Press journalists who witnessed Mr Ahmadinejad register on Tuesday said election officials were “stunned” when he submitted the paperwork.
President Hassan Rouhani, a moderate who negotiated a nuclear deal with world powers in 2015, is yet to register but is widely expected to seek a second term.

What’s weird to me was expressed earlier by @theghostofeustacetilley.
Major people in trump’s campaign who now “did very little and were hardly known or around” yet they have deep ties to Russian oligarchs, Russian mafia and Putin. What a mix.
And it was Russian money that got trump back on his feet financially in the 1990’s when his portfolio went bust… wish I had a link for that.

Arroganc-enza? Next level to that affluenza scumbag?

Dunno, maybe they just went to that private school Dwight. Stands for Drunk White Idiots Getting High Together. As Manhattan schools go, it’s not exclusive regarding academics.

Lot of “Duping” going on here.
They really are a collection of exceptionally stupid people.
Kushner in his thirties and thinks he is sooooo smart.
I think back to my thirties.
Thought I had all the answers now I was “mature”
Ya I thought my shit didn’t stink too

What was Page doing meeting with those Russians that mattered to Trump and was so important the FBI got a FISA warrant on him? It sure seems likely that it had to do with the Rosneft deal (a deal detailed in the Steele dossier and discussed by lots of independent commenters but never mentioned by the WaPo, NYT or even TPM, as far as I know_.

“This confirms all of my suspicions about unjustified, politically motivated government surveillance,” …gotta run. I’m booked on Alex Jones in 10 minutes…and then he giggled manically.

Either Carter Page is a slime bucket or the procedure for obtaining a FISA warrant is flawed. I have an opinion on that…

Buyer’s remorse?

Jared Kushner? Never heard of … wait, he was that guy who was just hanging around the campaign for a while. Never got to meet the president though.
Bannon? Why are you bringing him up? He’s not even real. He’s the president’s imaginary friend. Totally fictional.

Meanwhile the walls continue to close in on Manafort. https://apnews.com/20cfc75c82eb4a67b94e624e97207e23

Good thing for Trump Manafort played hardly any role whatsoever in his campaign. (Trump now seems to be doing his “I barely knew him act” with Bannon too.)

Excellent question. Generally stupid and stupidly bold are my best guesses. Normal people would worry about getting caught and spending the rest of their lives waiting to be put to death at Leavenworth. Not these guys. Their privilege told them they could get away with it and their stupidity told them it was worth it.

He denies wrongdoing but confirmed he gave information to a Russian agent. That’s some circle to square.

I think this is the key to Page, the Rosneft deal which did go through in December. He seems too stupid and weak to actually contribute at a high level to the campaign. But as the ambassador on this kind of deal he’s smarmy schmoozey perfection. He’s too dumb to threaten any of the decision makers, and connected enough to be an acceptable broker to the Russians. Perfect.

One thing I’ve noticed is Trump’s own company and the campaign shared a culture of being composed by operator types, people who think they’re smarter than everyone else when the truth is they’re just lazier and more willing to consider the rules as not applying to them. Trump fetishizes using power in obviously unethical, uncaring, unfettered ways. “I promise you, I will pay the legal fees!” That sort of thing. And once they won, they felt entirely invulnerable. Doing stuff openly is the point—they’re saying they can’t be stopped now. The point is debatable but that is, I think, the point.

“He’s too dumb to threaten any of the decision makers, and connected enough to be an acceptable broker to the Russians. Perfect.” Yes I think that’s right. Easy to dismiss too if anything of this should come to light (as it has).

The only drawback is that slimy Mr. Page seems like a very good candidate to flip when the time comes. It will be quite interesting to hear what he has to say if that happens.

Very likely. Or this is some kind of WWE-like ‘kayfabe’ ploy. I’ll take Putin at his word…provisionally.

Hubris and arrogance.

Right he’s expendable. A proverbial messenger, DOA. The king only sends someone he can live without.
