Discussion for article #243571
So the sages of the Post editorial board seriously think tRump is electable? I wonder if theyâre also investing in Sno-cone stands in hell?
Any American that loves the U.S. Constitution and swears to âuphold and defendâ it, shoulld renounce Trump, and ask him to drop out, move out of America, heâs no use here, and his wealth should be confiscated as he leaves, heâs a con artist. Or maybe he should just go to jail, do not pass go or collect $200.
âFor responsible Republicans,â the board wrote, âthe season of denial must end.â (WaPo editorial)
I think the âresponsible Republicansââif such a thing exists anymoreâare vastly outnumbered. They willingly did this to themselves â and totally deserve it.
Poor Republicans. If they renounce Trump he might go third party; if they donât, they might end up with him as the party nominee, and get creamed, besides cementing their reputation as the racist/sexist party.
I feel mighty bad for them.
People were saying months ago that it would take The Donald winning the nomination and losing big (no Latino vote, no Muslim vote, no women voters, a small R turnout maybe), before the Rs learned how ruinous he would be to their brand and then would have to reestablish a party based on democratic principles and respect. But the other contestants wonât ârenounceâ him until they check his poll numbers first because they want a piece of that action.
Exactly what Obamaâs spokesperson said earlier today. The problem is how do Republicans repudiate Trump when most of their candidates have said very similar things, only in their indoor voice? Repudiating Trump means repudiating the whole lot of them.
Can you imagine Donnie saying heâd swear to âpreserve, protect and defend the Constitutionâ with his hand on a bible? I canât either.
Even if he doesnât, he is still the candidate of choice for conservatives. They like him, in part, because he is not âpolitically correctâ and is a party outsider. If the Republicans kick him out based on what can be perceived as âpolitical correctnessâ grounds, they run the risk of further alienating a large portion of their base - which is already highly distrustful of both the party and the establishment candidates. Tough times for the Repubs. So sad, too bad for them for willfully going down this road.
No truer words spoken in the last eight years. Well, some just as true ⌠but none truer.
I assume the WaPo, the most âinside the villageâ of all the villagers, think that if GOP establishment and leadership renounce Trump, then heâs toast. But thatâs the whole point of Trump-style politics. The GOP establishment has no control over him; his followers love that. If they all renounced him, heâd see a bump in the polls, because the embittered, threatened, low-information voters who are driving his campaign would see this as another sign that heâs the one guy who stands outside of the system they believe has abandoned them.
The WaPo has always believed in a dearth of bipartisan civility, which in fact has been almost entirely a Republican incivility. They looked the other way because it benefited their economic interests and their loyalty to the military industrial complex and the upper class they constantly court. Trump is a form of royalty they havenât contended with before; he exists outside their system of kowtowing and noblesse oblige.
They know heâs shitting in the punch bowl and has no chance.
This all amuses me greatly.
The Washington Post has written multiple critiques of Trumpâs presidential bid. On Saturday, the board called him a âpoison pillâ for the Republican party
Big Dawg is playing the game on a whole ânother level, folks! Iâm tellinâ ya!
NOoooooooooo! Let the season of denial continue through the primary!!!
Saint Ronnie tweets that he sure could use a Sno-Cone right about now. I wouldnât even piss in a glass for him.
It fills me with such Holiday Joy to see you so amused. (we need some Holiday-themed emo-faces).
Itâs actually crazier than that. Because Trump would simply blast them for taking their orders from the New York Times. He would probably go up another five points.
Yeah. But, honestly, shouldnât they be doing that with virtually all of the GOP candidates?
My thoughts exactly, BC! At the national level the concept of a âResponsible Republicanâ is an oxymoron⌠a serious joke.
LD
umm⌠did the WAPO think Barry Goldwater was gonna beat LBJ?
if they didnât then why are they worried about Donnie Dipstick and if they didâŚ
well⌠draw your own conclusionsâŚ
