Discussion: Waaaa! After VP Debate, GOPers Weep That Pence Isn't The Top Of The Ticket

A nasty group of Pharisees, for sure.

Funny that the debate was against pence and kaine.

The all those gop/bag tweets, you’d think the debate was pence vs. trump…with pence winning and trump coming out the loser! Again!

Take it from a Hoosier…while Pence may look good compared to tramp (and who wouldn’t?), Pence is dumber than an Indiana fence post and has brought shame and embarrassment to our state. If he hadn’t been chosen by tramp, and if the gop had been stupid enough to nominate Pence again for governor, we would have tarred, feathered and carried Pence out of the governor’s mansion on a rail! He has no business in the White House. Period.

People keep saying that Pence won, but if you are upstaging your Presidential candidate from the beginning to the end of the debate, you lost.

Kaine did his job for his candidate. Kaine did win the last 4 minutes when the two focused on reproductive rights. He won it quite handily as an American patriot and a person of faith who has faith in women. Pence came across as an old testament patriarch who believes sincerely that men rule their women and reproduction.

Trump was buying them in part with contributions from his Foundation. RCP’s Berg has a detailed article on it that is worth reading.

I forgot about that.

Maybe someone should remind folks like Shapiro that a ‘good looking candidate’ isn’t really the issue here.

ait that sight beautiful?

Perhaps - but would that loss be offset by hardcore conservatives flocking back to Pence?

Pence is a fucking idiot. And his hard right christian warrior thing would not be popular with 80% of the country.

But hey, please proceed GOP.

Yes!

Love it!

Not really; Pence’s positions form the core of what today’s Republican Party regards as important.

Can tell the difference between two of the same…

Pence is in a phase, it’s known as denial, grief is on the horizon quickly followed by a schlonging of the Mexican variety I believe.

How many more VP debates are there because Wunderkid Pence shot his wad already at this one, that is unless he goes with super secret double-denial where the bonus points get really big. Doh!

The Right is so fucking clueless: they think being unable to defend the top of the ticket is a “good” thing.

They created this mess and its fun watching them try to put lipstick on this Miss Piggy.

It’s not healthy to repress your emotions like that.

It’s funny that these Republicans can’t seem to have figured out how it was that trump became their nominee. What if their is no generic Republican anymore? At least, not one that could actually win the nomination? What if a “generic” Republican is Ted Cruz? Didn’t he come in second?

Maybe 15% of them at a max. He only looks good because tramp looks so bad. Remember that Pence was so weak in the primaries that he couldn’t make it to the RNC’s small table in a field of 18 plus Pence.

That wasn’t Kaine’s job. Kaine did exactly what he had to do to advance Hillary. He was a good soldier. Pence might have seemed the better debater, but in a different race and with a different mission, I bet the kid from Rockhurst would have scored big on the wingnut patriarch who doesn’t really believe women can be trusted with their own reproductive choices. The last four minutes when Kaine addressed Pence’s positions directly he creamed Pence.

Pence likely wouldn’t be doing that much better in the polls. He has a long record of being a right-wing, religious zealot; something the country is moving further and further from. His abysmal record in Indiana would be a non-stop talking point, not to mention the onerous laws against women’s reproductive rights that are in court now and will most likely be struck down. Anyone can look good next to Trump by comparison, but Pence has his own set of problems.

I thought Kaine looked jumpy last night as opposed to Pence’s relative calm, but overall he knew his stuff and did a good job keeping Pence on the defensive.

I’m not sure that things would be better for the GOP if Pence were the nominee. Pence’s term as governor was a disaster. He likely would have lost his re-election had he not jumped on the GOP ticket. Pence instituted Brownback-style economic policies which have resulted in Indiana lagging behind neighboring states in recovery and job development. He signed the extremely discriminatory RFRA law – which he defended. He signed an anti-abortion law which was so extreme that even many in the anti-abortion movement were against it. Because of his “faith,” he stopped a needle program which resulted in such a large spike in new HIV cases, he had to reverse course. In fact, as a congressman, he was against funding for HIV unless the government discouraged people from same-sex relationships. He said same-sex couples were a sign of “societal collapse.” He wants to wipe Planned Parenthood off the face of the planet. He doesn’t believe in equal pay for equal work for women. He is a climate change denier. He is opposed to any restrictions on assault style weapons.

So, the only thing Pence has going for him is that he will stay on script. But have no doubt, he is just as extreme as Trump. Things wouldn’t be that much better for the GOP if he were the nominee. But go ahead and run him in 2020. See what happens.
