The only way for Democrats to beat this kind of money is to grass roots the hell out of it. Sadly that’s something we don’t see enough of.
The three members were elected during a typical low turnout election. Once the light of reality was on them and enough voters showed up, they did not stand a chance. I am from Jefferson County and talked to many people who voted this time.
Are school board races now going to cost $1 million because some wealthy wing nut is willing to buy the positions?
the objective of a charter school is to provide an income to the founders/organizers of the charter school, period. They generally try to exempt themselves from any reporting requirements as to outcomes, testing, etc. of their students. That, if known, could seriously handicap their money-making scheme.
One thing I have learned about Christian conservatives is they are like cockroaches. You can’t kill them. They will run again at the next opportunity. The price of good education for our kids is eternal vigilance. The fact that they will come back is why the Democratic party needs to become active in Jefferson County Colorado.
Couldn’t have happened to a more stilted fucked up little group of wingers, good to see Jeffco get out the vote and oust these vermin.
Yes
There is a lesson to be learned here and from some of the conservative victories last night. People come out to vote strongly only when they feel they have a stake in the outcome. Yes, Hillary needs to adopt a lot of Bernie’s agenda but must also carve out a signature piece of legislation.
The ERA was killed by the GOP when it was just two state ratifications away from passage. That was an insult to the grandmothers of today’s young women and men. It’s doomed over half of our nation’s population to a second class status. It’s a travesty. And it’s a curse just as onerous as slavery.
Hillary could make this amendment a badge of couragte and honor that reaches across the generations. It would give legal status to not only women but also gays and lesbians. It would provide the framework for the future inclusion of all those who grew up in this nation… a means towards achieving full citizenship for the Dreamers.
Hispanics need to see that one party and its supporters (and only one party) believes in equal rights for all. Let’s get the American people on their feet and engaged in democracy again instead of just asking them to vote. It’s time to advance progressive family values and the liberal principles which are the keystone of our federal Constitution and Bill of Rights.
I’m sick of political pundits saying that Democrats only vote in general elections. It’s true because Democrats have been too timid to espouse the virtues of progressive ideals that are rooted in democracy.
Jefferson, Madison, Jackson, FDR and Kennedy didn’t have that problem. Progressive Republicans like Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower didn’t have that problem… Voters flock to the polls when they are offered a strong democracy of the majority (not the conservative minority) running the country.
It’s part of the reason why so many Republicans are flocking to Bernie and Trump’s rallies. They miss their progressive roots. The GOP today only represents the filthy rich and bigots.
It’s time to advance an amendment worthy of the Bill of Rights instead of just another campaign slogan. Democrats must appeal to those who long for a sign that this nation can be a true democracy again.
The ERA does that. It’s a highly visible way to challenge the conservative Republican oligarchy that has had our government in a stranglehold for nearly 50 years now. They are the reason that nothing ever gets done in this country. They don’t believe in government of the people, by the peole and for the people. That’s what they have been saying and proving they mean it.
It’s time to kill that kind of thinking…in a progressive way, again.
They meddled and lost. Righteousness prevails!
We Democrats have a built in advantage that we are wasting and are far to non-chalant about. Voting is the key and therefore it has to be pushed from the bottom to the top.
I’m talking ad campaigns and social media, network TV and cable. For a better life, we all have to vote.
Time to go back to what works. The 50 state strategy pioneered by Howard Dean and Joe Trippi.
I think there will be another ballot measure next year to address congressional legislature.
I’ll take $20 worth of that action. As long as the Republicans control Columbus I don’t see it happening. They are going to protect their gerrymandered Congressional delegation for as long as possible.
I’m not sure what the timetable for the redistricting is, but I suspect it is awaiting the 2020 Census results. If that is the case, nothing happens until 2023 (after the 2022 midterms) and a more fairly apportioned House and Senate go to Columbus. If they are going to sit and redistrict today for 2016, we might see some action in January 2017.
